We've been around this discussion a few times, so this topic is nothing new for long-time Turbo fans, but I'm hoping this time to inspire a little more broad thought. What arcade games would have made good ports to the PC Engine? What games did we miss out on that might have been shoo-in titles for the little Engine that could? We know we missed out on Contra and a number of other Capcom and Konami stuff, but are there any other arcade manufacturers who didn't give the Turbo enough love?
What prompted this was thinking about Data East. They had a large library of pretty ubiquitous arcade titles. I remember seeing stuff like Sly Spy, Heavy Barrel, Two Crude Dudes, and Bad Dudes all over local arcades back in the day. So why didn't the PC Engine get more Data East ports? Even the NES managed very capable adaptations of Heavy Barrel and Bad Dudes. The PC Engine was sort of an ideal platform for those games. Bad Dudes in particular would have been a great title to port with only a few compromises needed.
What other titles or company libraries might have found an easy home on the PC Engine?

Heavy Barrel is a good shout. Who did Mercs?

Final Fight's parallax was seemingly designed for an easy port to PC Engine. Even if it came out late enough to make use of the Arcade Card, it wouldn't be any more dated than Strider and is the kind of game the library is lacking.

I would have loved to see a PC Engine version of Taito’s Space Gun. Taito ported over a lot of their games to the console and another 3D shooter would have added to the variety, so I can’t understand why this one was ignored.

XeXex, galaxy force, marble madness, snow bros, dragon breed, were all cancelled:(
Contra and Super C are definitely at the top of my list!
Shinobi turned out pretty decently despite some cuts. A port of shadow dancer that was like the arcade version (genny is a new game) would’ve been awesome!

Many Data East arcade games shared architecture with the PC Engine and are easy to spot since many of them lacked parallax scrolling. Read the specs of this Data East board www.system16.com/hardware.php?id=942
This is a great discussion. I personally would've loved to have seen how early Williams classics would've translated to the Engine, particularly the sound. Boot up Defender or Robotron and you get that distinctive "Williams" sound. Also later Atari hits like Hard Drivin', Stun Runner, Paperboy, etc. would be incredibly interesting to see running under the PCE's chipset. It seems like the older I get the more I appreciate the US arcade developers from that era.

Speaking of Atari, I would have loved a decent home port of Temple of Doom. PC Engine would have been able to handle it with ease.

I don't think I have complete collages of each stage with all of the updated assets ready to crop into samples, but I've converted all of the in-stage background assets plus some other stuff.
A lot of the game is challenging to make either faithful, look best or both. A few pixelart adjustments were made to improve over a straight palette swap.
These snippets should feature 80 - 99% PCE spec assets:
Here you can see the improvements that I made to the title screen:

Nice! ^^ The 'Engine always seemed to be able to favorably transfer over "Capcom"-style colors. If you can have a playable build fully ready for me within twenty minutes I would greatly appreciate it, BT. I'm on a schedule here!

Wow, I didn't know all those were even considered in the first place (except for Marble Madness, I know there's a ROM floating about for that). Is there anywhere I can find out more about these?
