Yeah...a certain someone turned my thread into a shithole. Thanks for that, buddy. I sure won't ask things out of sheer curiosity anymore

Master Linkuei made a Mortal Kombat hack for the Sega Megadrive calling it Arcade Edition, Massive improvements all made/done with SGDK software. Its really such a shame we dont have anyone like that in the PC Engine scene that would make a mortal kombat demo of 1 stage or even just a picture of what it would/could look like. www.youtube.com/watch?v=88nUofMrQwALinkuei takes other people's work and presents it as his own and asks for money for it.
He also endangers those kinds of projects by posting patched roms of copyrighted games on youtube to try to get more "donations".
We do have someone like that in the PC Engine scene and his similar actions killed some great projects.

Unlike here, Linkuei is actually doing things for the fans/everyone and he does give credit as seen with his MK1 release and that other game. If your gonna call him a criminal for modding/patching a rom and releasing it free then your on another planet. Didnt know u can go to jail for using a rom. Anyway back to it = any Mortal Kombat game mentioned with the words PC Engine/T16 brings hate. I don't know why but after posting on here i don't care anymore.

No, it sounds like he's on the wrong side of the ethics of this. Also, is there a particular reason you're coming in with a chip on your shoulder? The tone of your posts needs to change. We don't have room here for extra drama. We're full up.

Alright, these are my ideas for a possible port of UMK3 on the great little CD add-on. 1: Arcade soundtrack played as redbook audio, fighters' voices streamed via the ADPCM channel and the sound effects use the 6 PSG channels 2: 6 button controller to keep the controls as close to the original as possible 3: Use of the arcade card to keep all the frames of animation and every stage detail 4: Choice of playing tournament mode -Strictly with the PC Engine multitap- I'm pretty confident it would be an amazing conversion, able of trumping the Mega Drive version in the graphics department (And maybe matching the SNES) aside from the usual sprite flicker To bring this post back on target, I do think it would be interesting to see a semi-playable mock up on the PCE. I kinda like the "what if" scenario mock ups. In relation to the recent mockups flooding the MD scene; it's really Stef's sprite library that made it possible. You don't even really need to know how to code per se (outside of basic concepts); you feed it a sprite sheet and an animation number and bob's your uncle. His sprite app chops up sprites into optimal storage/usage too. PCE scene has nothing like this. You would have to do this yourself, for every single frame. So that's why it would take more time to throw up working demo. Stef's method is powerful but doing anything outside of it, requires a lot more work. So great for quick animation demos, but anything more and you're back to handle optimization/code/design. MD also has something like 32megabit projects without mapper support. PCE dev scene does not. So SGDK has some really nice features and ease of use right out of the box. That said, the PCE dev scene, at least for C, doesn't really have as mature of a setup as SGDK. There is work being done. And while I've been swamped with work (working more than 60 hours a week), I've still been working on HuC related stuff and.. adding music + sfx support for deflemask (which will be completely open source) - trying to give it a convenient option for music and sfx. There also has been work to make the library more modular for HuC as well. Rather than sticking everything possible into a HuC deployment, it would be nice to have library setups for different development environments (something for shumps, or platformers, or fighters). Things might be moving slowly, but they are moving along. And to the point, I'd love to see some mock ups or playable "what if" demos on the PCE. But you need an approachable platform for that kinda thing. I did some quick BG conversions of King of Fighters 98 last year. You can download the rom demos here: www.turboxraypce.org/pce_demos/ . So yeah, I'm a fan of that sort of thing haha.

I think fan works are how people often get interested enough in a platform to do original work. Discounting fan works as not desirable because they are not original is folly. Fan works mean you can wrangle the technical side without having to also wrangle the creative headaches of building something your own from scratch. And once you have a firmer technical understanding then you can move on to trying to come up with your own content ideas, because you have a better technological base to build on. Had I time and inclination, though, I think beat 'em ups and run 'n guns would be where I gravitate to. Animation and sprite work on fighters can be unforgiving. In the original space, balancing too.

Not to mention some of the projects he "shows off" are...kinda crap, to say the least? That Splatterhouse Mega Drive mock-up on SGDK has really janky physics, I can feel it lmao

This is a message from your almighty overseeing king administrator
CALM DOWN FOLKS
The important things to learn from this thread are:
Sometimes people want to see a remake of a game they love on hardware they love, even if it is inferior to the original. This is fine.
Some people may not like a game you like, and have their own legitimate personal reasons why they think it is crap. This is fine.
Some people think that the amount of effort that goes into de-making a game onto an old format while you can basically play it free on MAME or elsewhere is a waste of time and resources that could be put into developing something new and original. This is fine.
Some people think that the amount of effort that goes into de-making a game onto an old format while you can basically play it free on MAME or elsewhere is OK with them because they'd really like to see it. This is also fine.
All these things are fine and we are all allowed to make our opinions clear on this matter even if we disagree.
However it is not OK to call people twats, pricks, or otherwise insult them because they don't think as you do, don't understand the difficulty of development the way you do, or don't leap up in excitement and beg to help a project that you personally are interested in. Educate, don't insult.
If you are just making a post to have a jab at someone, please don't bother. That means people on both sides.
Thank you for your cooperation.
