Funny how everyone in this post forgot I wasn't asking about Mortal Kombat 1 I didn’t. That’s why I cited the correct ROM size for UMK3 in my comparison.

If we use the MD or SNES ports as comparators I think the result could be perfectly sufficient. The kind of hyperbole you’re throwing around seems quite uncalled for. Someone piss in your breakfast cereal? I mean, this wouldn’t be my project of choice, but I don’t feel the need to drop trou and squat over the idea of it. Yeah, it seems like an MK fan pissed him off recently LMAO. If he doesn't have anything useful to contribute to the conversation, he should straight up avoid being a twat It’s amazing to me that your brain is wired in such a tribal fashion as this. You think I only like or dislike things because of other people liking them or disliking them. You can’t seem to wrap your head around the idea that it is the game itself that is offensive. The only fans of MK who have pissed me off are the makers of MK and it isn’t for any other reason than the game they made. I also don’t like the movie Armageddon, not because Bruce Willis stole my car or any puss leaking out of my ear holes, it’s because the movie sucks and if someone wanted to reshoot it at home in 16mm I’d ask them why they were making an inferior version of a bad movie.

One thing to keep in mind is that people who want to remake a beloved game are often using that remake to hone their skills. Remakes can lead to new original titles and are a good starting point for people looking to gain experience. It also can unite fans with different skills sets, and if those relationships are strong, they might continue as a team. Ultimately, if someone is fulfilled by their work it isn't wasted effort. Works from fan communities can draw more attention to under-appreciated platforms or titles, inspire more people to dabble in programming and hacking, and provide learning experiences. Nobody is obligated to make what WE want them to make, and dumping on their efforts doesn't do them or us any favors.
As a homebrewer, I still disagree with this. I personally think it's 10 times better to make something you can call your own, and not have to worry about some corporation coming and smacking you down.
HOWEVER, this conversation did make me look up AM2R, and I ended up listening to a half hour interview with the dev. So, some of the nice parts are that he had an already-built fan community to work with. No one knows or gives a shit about my characters, so building a fan base and following is difficult, to say the least. The Metroid community welcomed him with open arms... and AM2R was mostly done by the time Nintendo came and put his project 6 feet under. To credit what you said spenoza, he's actually now a level designer for Ori, so it definitely worked out for him.
There's still the bad parts. He did spend years on this project, for Nintendo to literally C&D him to never work on it again. I'd be dejected to work on something so hard and for so long, just to be told I could literally not even open the code to work on it without getting sued. So, I'm not "dumping" on people's efforts. It's more a warning that your baby can be taken away from you at any time, if you decide to port someone else's IP. No one can tell me what to do with Jessie.
The final point I want to make is the irony of the final line - "Nobody is obligated to make what WE want them to make..." This entire thread is asking someone ELSE to make the techo demo and/or port of MK1, MK3, UMK3 or whatever.

What the hell are you talking about? I'm not asking anybody to make this tech demo/game for me, I just described how I would do it personally. I really want to dabble in the programming side of things, but I still know little about assembly and stuff

You're not forced to develop it for a HuCard, you know. The console also has much more power than a B&W Game Boy. I really wanna see someone make a tech demo (One of those you hate oh so much) so they can shoot down your debate You can see where I'm confused by the conflict here, because it definitely seems like you're asking someone else to make it. Granted, this was said in the heat of the moment, but you can see my confusion.
If you want to tackle this project yourself, great! Hit us up in the dev area! Rover wrote some great tutorials to get you started with HuC. I'm willing to help however I can.

I really want to dabble in the programming side of things, but I still know little about assembly and stuff I think that's great. I'm pretty sure it's way too big a project to bite off for learning to program, but I'd be happy to be wrong about that. Either way, you could end up with a functional fighting engine out the end of it which could be repurposed for other things. PCE Mugen, anyone?

I could always make an unofficial sequel to Asuka 120% lmao

I can't be certain but I might have seen some source code for UMK3,could always have a peek at it if my recollection is correct.

Did anyone get around to doing a mockup of UMK3 for pce? Good luck with that, the people here are self entitled and wont do anything for anyone unless there is something in it for them besides running peoples ideas down the toilet. If one of these selfish pricks did something for a fanboy I'd be a millionaire betting on it. Just read the hate above -

Just read the hate above - I'm not sure who exactly this is directed at, or where this is coming from, but it's not exactly simple to throw up a mock up (at least something decent). It takes time, and afaik pce devs are doing their own thing and don't have the spare time. At least the ones that I'm in contact with.

The entitled person is the one expecting a stranger to do something he asks, on his schedule, without compensation or regard for their spare time or any technical challenges. Or whether they are even interested. You, know, there’s always the possibility that you make one…we’ve created the tools… but I’m not going to lie, it’s not a small job. So, your comment comes out sounding something like, “Nobody has bought me a Tesla yet because everybody’s so damn cheap !”
