When you say, "run n gun", do sword-types qualify ? There were quite a few of those - but they weren't always something to write home about.

Run n gun requires projectile use, either guns or energy blasts. And they aren't always that much run. Mega Man could be considering a run n gun minus some of the run. Either way, jumping and shooting and dodging wasn't something we got a lot of. Dai Makaimura counts, though.

Yeah. Seeing what came out on the NES/Famicom, and then realizing the PCE can do so much more, why weren't there more top tier or solid action platformers? Also, I just realized Ninja Spirit came out almost 3 years after the system was released.

Run-'n-gun is basically a hybrid of the shooting genre and the platform genre. A hack-'n-slash platform game is basically just a standard platform game but with more focus on sword-fighting than platform jumping I guess. An athletic platform game is what the Super Mario and Sonic series does (lots of platform jumping) so I guess Megaman is something between a run-'n-gun and an athletic platform game. Castlevania might be between hack-'n-slash (although you use a whip/flail) and athletic (although the Belmonts are quite stiff).
PC-Engine got lots of shoot-'em-ups and some hack-'n-slash but is somewhat lacking in the athletic or shooting types of platform games.

Well, there was Shockman... that was pretty good, I guess. Kind of Mega-Man-y...
Games like Clash at Demonhead, Xexyz, Whomp Em!, Power Blade and Legacy of the Wizard would be my dream ports for Turbografx.

Legacy of the Wizard, really? I am a little confused about why there's no Xexyz on PCE, given that's a Hudson title. I don't care much for Shockman, really. Even Bloody Wolf isn't that great. It's good, but so highly regarded, I think, mostly because it simply doesn't have any competition on the platform. The PCE was ripe for most of those titles.

The first Shockman game (yes, it didn't come out in NA but I'll just use that naming convention anyway) is horrible in my opinion. Shockman 2 is.. okay at best (I'm not exactly a fan of the music for it). Design-wise it's not on the level of Megaman and such.. not anywhere near it. Shockman 3 is the best in the series, and it's a decent game (nice graphics, stages, transitioning areas, has character, etc).. but the gameplay still feels 'tin-ny' or unrefined. It doesn't feel polished like other top tier platformers. The charge weapon is so over powered, it's all I use in the game. The game needs balancing and refinement, but I still play through it from time to time. A 4th in the series would have been nice (considering the design advancement of the games as each new one game out in the series).

I can't use the charge weapon all the way through, because the sound effect is so nonsensically bad. Like, what sound designer thought it was a good idea?

Dragon Slayer IV was more or less tailor made for the Famicom and the MSX though. At least the PCE did enjoy a nice library of games from the series: DS5: Sorcerian DS6: Legend of Heroes 1&2 DS8: Legend of Xanadu I think both DS6 games were released in the west, and DS8 was even a system exclusive. (Whether Lengend of Xanadu counted as a Dragon Slayer game was a bit disputed as the director of the series had left Falcom and this game was made without his involvement, and the game even had a "The end of Dragon Slayer" tagline).

I think anything that appeared on the NES or Famicom is fair game and reasonable, even if the developer of said game never developed a game for the PC Engine.
As others have stated, Hudson could have handled the porting themselves if the original developer was not interested.
Of course, we all know Nintendo had anti-competition policies, but that shouldn't get in the way of fun speculation.

Heck yeah, an Aliens port would be awesome. They'd have to scale it down a whole lot though. A port of Crime Fighters or Double Dragon would be great too. There were ports of Vigilante and Ninja Warrriors, so there's always room for more beat em ups. Or Gang Wars...
Ninja Kids...

A port of Crime Fighters ... Always love it with someone remember Crime Fighters! Love that 90's "gritty" Konami graphic look. Punk Shot is another I'd love to acquire someday, last auction one sold for $600 in a converted Quartet Cab. That "gritty" Konami look is reminds me of Bloody Wolf on obey.
