I think there are collectors who probably never had the og growing up and have an interest in the system's games, but don't want to delve into self served emulation or the expense of original hardware. Others might just be looking for a way to play these games in modern TVs in the most convenient way possible. Others might be looking at it like a cool toy to add to their gaming rooms. The nostalgia folks are going to be a very small subset of a very small audience to begin with, at least in the US. I'd agree with this, but I don't think the system looking like a TG-16 is going to stop anyone like this from buying it, and it makes it more likely that customers in the US will know what it is. Even among people who've never owned one, the system that was actually sold here has to be more recognizable. It may not have sold well, but it still got magazine coverage, for instance. Why miss out on sales from people that, say, saw it in GamePro and always thought it looked cool but never bought one? I really don't think that's less people than would buy the PCE design because they like the look of it, despite having no idea what it is.

This! They should bring the ys 4 and rondo translations that are already available AND to really crush, they should finish the unfinished Bonk game and release it on the mini ala starfox 2 or Ultracore Bonk: Brink of Extinction or the Bonk RPG?
The latter was probably cancelled for a reason. If it's former it would probably be easier to start from scratch. Besides any new Bonk game should look like a Turbografx game, not ugly polygons. Shudders* (though they should cheat with the transformations when Bonk eats meat a la Bloodstained Curse of the Moon).
Yeah no. Definitely the Bonk RPG or whatever it was. I'd be down for a brand new tg16 bonk game that would be sweet.

RPC Genjin had no significant development before it was canned. I'm guessing a few art assets and such (it was originally a joke in a Gekkan) so there probably isn't anything remaining of it anywhere.

Therefore I assume Konami already owns the rights to these: Games Hudson, NEC, or Red developed, so maybe they have ties to the rights: I am sure I am missing a ton but these all come to mind when I think of Hudson/NEC/Red/Konami If they can secure a good deal with Irem, Namco, Capcom, etc I imagine they can put together a dope little library Konami bought the rights to the entire PC Engine library, so potentially, they could put anything on there. I'm definitely gonna grab up a white Engine and a Core Grafx, maybe even a TG-16. I'm hyped. Oh man, I can imagine taking this to the pub for Bomberman… The dream

I've never heard that before. Seems like it would be an expensive legal nightmare to pull off.

And I don't know how they could have, since many of the companies disappeared before the rights could have been negotiated...
On the other hand, Konami does have Hudson (and of course Konami), and may have others...

Also, Madden, Darkwing Duck, Tailspin seem like wouldn't be easily negotiated.

Hmm. I heard it here at ~2m55s
But you're right, some licenses would be tricky. Maybe it's a misstatement and he means they renewed the copyright to the PC Engine/Turbografx, which was about 2 years ago, and they own all the hudson IPs (a decent chunk)

Owning all of Hudson’s IP does not mean owning the entire system’s library. NEC developed lots of content, including tons of licensed ports. Basically, Konami owns all Konami and Hudson original IP. But that still leaves a swath of Namco, Irem, Naxat, Kaneko, Capcom, SNK, various anime licenses, and NEC original content that has to be licensed, some of which already has been licensed, like the Irem content.

Oh I know, but that guy specifically said the entire TG-16 library. I mean I can see that they would go after acquiring a lot of those games if they were able, just to have a one-stop thing for Virtual consoles and for this mini, but I get that other licenses like the Disney stuff might be in that legal black hole that those things go

Well, but he’s a YouTuber, and from the sound of things, doesn’t visit us here to vet his facts. But seriously, it would be much easier to license the whole TG-16 library than the whole PC-E library for a lot of reasons, not least because of the sheer number of titles. Anyway, I hope they make good choices !

Well, if a YouTuber said it...must be true!
Anyway, I'm excited about this. It's just cool to see these consoles get any sort of modern exposure. As a fan, this is great and I'm very excited to see what other games they include. Would be awesome if they sneak in some cool bonuses like Sega is with the Genesis Mini.
