The power requirements for this unit seem a little high for USB or USB2.0 (from a PC vs a dedicated charger). I have mine connected to my PC via USB3.0 because it can deliver higher amperage (but not higher voltage).

I've also been using USB ports, either on my TV or my laptop, and haven't had issues. I haven't used it a ton, though, since I don't have a good place to leave it set up.

I'm using a USB charging port on my power strip. It can put out 2A. Seems to work fine.

I use the one that came with the SNES Mini. It’s excellent, I’ve run my Mini for many hours and have had no issues.
USB1/2/3/C/whatever has nothing to do with it. As far as power is concerned that’s just the shape of the socket and you can put double the current the Mini needs through any of them. What matters is the total potential current output of the power supply and how fast the device can consume it. The OG iPhone charger is excellent and very reliable but would probably not be enough for this job.
I would not use a PC or anything that’s more than a power supply. I’ve had devices blow the USB ports out of other devices before...it sucks. Buy a $10 used Android PSU to potentially save your $1000 computer. Obviously the PCE Mini is a quality device but the way I see it the more current the device uses the greater the chance of it blowing out the port.

If you are charging from a USB port on a PC, the revision standard is important. A standard USB 2.0 port is supposed to deliver max 500 mA. There’s a separate charging standard that supports up to 1.5 mA, but that standard is intended largely for charging and you are not likely to find one on a PC. USB 3.x, on the other hand, supports 900 mA. As a charging standard it has lots of options, but not as a data port on a PC. Laptop USB ports will often only support lower, below-standard power delivery to preserve battery life. The connector has indeed been co-opted for charging, but most USB chargers adhere only to the connector and the 5 volts and no other parts of the standard.
So if you’re using your mini from a PC, make sure the PC is able to deliver adequate power. Your safest bet is to stick to USB 3.x ports to make sure you aren’t under-powering the unit.

Any new news on the hacking of the Turbob mini? Looks like the hack is unlikely to ever come, according to rockin the classics. Not due to FEL or some other technical issue that has to be overcome, but due to lack of interest. You have to keep in mind the PCE mini has a design flaw. Can you imagine flashing your console and you fry your controller usb? Even without a hack, I'm happy with the mini. Though I'm sad I won't be able to put Legendary Axe, Bonk 3 or any other game I want on it, I've gotten my money's worth out of it already. I think I've beaten, what 40? 45? games on it.

I don't buy the "lack of interest", but there's only so long you can sustain hype with no updates.

I suppose "lack of interest" was not referring to the public, but rather the part of the investigator (who then appears to have stopped updating).

Looks like the pce mini port of catastrophy is cancelled, rip I would have really enjoyed that. I plan on getting a Mega SG when it restocks as that system is getting a lot of quality homebrew. I noticed a lot of genesis homebrews are also available on Steam ie Xenocrisis, Demons of Asteborg, Coffee Crisis etc No reason, other than maybe technical, why turbo homebrew couldn't be offered on Steam to open it up to a wider audience and just have that platform open an emulator. A few games come with the rom if you buy the Steam version. Wish we would see more than that. >I don't buy the "lack of interest", but there's only so long you can sustain hype with no updates. Yeah, it's lack of interest from the hakchi team. Many of the developers didn't even bother to get a PCE mini.

I would have really enjoyed that. Me too, I enjoy playing it on emulator and my ted, would've been cool to have it loaded on the turbo mini when I bring it when we visit family to let them check it out. There is something more novel about playing on the mini consoles compared to playing on the laptop. I guess I just gotta lug the coregrafx out there next time, but even loading from the TED menu lacks the polish and style of the mini's gui. I wish we could get the TED menu to look cool and play music like the mini's interface which I love.

I got mine used from good ole Bernie (made sure to keep it away from any non Bernie purchased items) and have to say its pretty neat. I can see the attraction to these mini consoles, but I would love to put on some different games on there.
