Has PolyMega issues any kind of response to the issues with the 6-button not working with a Tap, or any of the other complaints? I don't think they response to anything at this point. Eric did pop into popixel's stream (pun not intended) and mention they we're hoping 5,000 units would ship in May. May meaning end of May, which is par to the course for them, I guess, as it gives them the most wiggle room.

Got a response from their support email:
"The controllers are compatible with our console and modules but there is a known issue with multitap compatibility. We do plan to improve the controllers but do not have any new ones at this moment to replace yours with, please let us know if you would just like to return the controllers and we can issue you a refund."
So I guess I'm going to go ahead and try to return the one with the defective switches. I didn't really want to spend more money, but I guess I'll have to get some Avenue 6 pads.

Leaving aside this embarrassing fuckup on their part, why do you need two six button pads? Are you working on a game that will use them? Otherwise it just lets you play very old ports of fighting games with another human. For people who want to do that I would for sure recommend a PS2 or MAME as vastly superior experiences.

Well, I've already got at least one fighting game for the system, and there isn't much point if I can't play it with someone else. Honestly, I was planning to work my way up to five controllers anyhow, since there are a decent amount of games that support that. I have enough relatives with kids that that's liable to come in handy.

Five players with two buttons is about 100 times more useful than two players with six buttons. There is ONE version of Street Fighter II on PCE, CE, the one that only PCE fans play because it’s the only one in PCE. Fatal Fury Special still has some fans but aside from that the other Neo ports are of pre-peak titles, to say the least. Bomberman 93 and 94 together completely decimate the fighting scene on PCE. I wouldn’t let the fact that you own one fighting game for PCE be an excuse to spend god knows what on controllers for it. If you want to fight you should be eBay-ing cheap PS2 sticks.

There are some other fun and unique fighters on PCE, like the FEoE one and Flash Hiders. It isn’t just port-city. I’m also struggling to understand why you are trying to dictate to others how they should be enjoying their hobby.

I mean, I appreciate that you're trying to give me advice. I'm aware of what fighting games are on the system and how often I'm likely to use the controllers. It's worth it to me because I happen to really like fighting games, and believe it or not I'm not just grabbing the first pads I see regardless of the price.
I did try to research the Polymega controllers first, but didn't have much luck. That's the whole reason I decided to post about getting them, since I figured it might help someone else.

I always thought I liked fighting games too. Earlier this year I built all my Neo MVS stuff into a rolling cart, made a new sticks for it (four and six buttons now so now it does CPS well) gave it HD and SD outputs; etc. I’ve spent more time this year with KOF 98 than any year since 1998. I have all the stuff you’re trying to buy, have had it for YEARS. For fighters, IMO, its much more valuable as a collection to look at than play at this point. I have the Ave6 (I no longer own two) Street Fighter II’, FFS, Flash Hiders, Kabuki, etc. If actually playing fighting games is important to you the PCE isn’t the best path and it isn’t the cheapest either, mainly because it died right before most of the truly great fighters happened (KOF, SFZ, vs, Garou). The PS2 and MAME walk all over the PCE fighting experience. I won’t say anything more about it.

Zeta, you can lead a horse to water... I understand the itch to get a game or console that is ill-advised, but it's just something folks (like me) have to do. I picked up the Fire Pro Women's arcade card game recently b/c it's been on my mind to get (gotta have a matching set with my Battlefield '94 ) and now that I own and played it...it's meh just like the internet told me. At least it was CHEAP! Talking PCE fighters, I also am hunting a FFS...but I only want to pay $10-15 for it, so it might be a while. PS: Let's not forget to mention Asuka 120% and Advanced VG! I personally feel World Heroes and the kabuki fighter are the best CD-ROM fighters on the system to play.

I, for one, am awful at fighters and I actually prefer the simpler early titles in the genre because my hands and dinosaur hind-brain simply cannot deal with 1-frames and high-speed yomi. The way I beat the CPU is by exploiting the AI. The only reason I beat SF2 on SNES at 8 stars is because all the characters are vulnerable to neutral jumping roundhouse. That said, I do still enjoy PVP, and I LIKE the experience on older platforms.
I actually really like the PCE Street Fighter 2 because the console experience for Street Fighter 2 is a little easier to deal with than the arcade experience and the PCE provides me with the perfect dose of nostalgia. In fact, for those early fighters I think the PCE is a great platform. The Neo Geo ports are all best-in-class and still have that console approachability. I played a TON of Fatal Fury Special and I really wish I had managed to get my hands on World Heroes. I also got a lot of Flash Hiders because if both people leveled up a character and invested points wisely you could get unbeatably cheap characters and it was fun to see who could out-cheese the other. Bang in particular was deadly if you bumped up his speed high enough. He could put you on complete lockdown. It was so much fun to spam cheese back and forth.

I personally feel World Heroes and the kabuki fighter are the best CD-ROM fighters on the system to play. I agree. Asuka %120 very good, slightly better than VG which I also love. These are two very fun console-style fighters that have all the extra flash only the PCE could provide back then. They also work perfectly with two button pads and don’t need the AC. I wouldn’t talk anyone out of either game. World Heroes is some pretty lightweight stuff compared to Fatal Fury Special though. The best overall fighter on PCE is probably Fatal Fury Special. But FSS is, at best, the fourth best game in the series so it’s not worth the price. I paid $1.50 for new copy of FFS, $20 for my Arcade Card Duo, and I’m guessing $25 or so for the Ave6 (originally bought for SFII). I don’t think I overpaid but I wouldn’t buy at current prices. An MVS copy of KOF 95 is like $50 and crushes any fighter on PCE so that’s where I started funneling my game money about ten years ago, arcade stuff.

I love KOF, but the series is just too combo and linker heavy for me. 95 isn't as big on that as the rest of the series, but Fatal Fury Special is a game I find a lot more accessible. The game pacing just suits me better. If I'm going to flail at KOF it's probably going to be 98, which is a great fighter but also a very different experience. Let's face it, fighter fans like different things, and like with all games, there's not "better" games that are better for everyone.

To be clear, I certainly didn't buy a PCE specifically to play fighting games. I agree, that'd be silly. I'm just saying that, since I really like the genre, I'd like to play at least a few of the ones that came out on the system.

Either way, I hope Polymega sorts out this issue. How do you feel about the dpad and hand-feel? You said the dpad was a little stiff, but I wonder if it will break in.
