Time to share your war wounds, fellows. What's the hardest boss fight on the Turbo/PCE and why?
I'm going for the Exile II last boss that Working Designs borked by mangling the difficulty curve. Someone over on RB beat it by basically maxing out his level and still had to get lucky.

The second Garp fight can be pretty tough if you haven't leveled up enough. Especially if you aren't using all of youe stockpiled items like Thor's Hammer, as well as equipment effects. People are already complaing about the difficulty of some of the bosses in FX Unit Yuki. When I got a copy of the published game, I tried out the hardest difficulty and made it to the boss of the second stage without taking a hit. Then quickly lost all of my lives.

I think it's Legendary Axe with that stupid cloud of eyeballs or whatever they are? I recall struggling mightily with those bastards!! Either that, or I had a bitch of a time because I'd always end up getting to it with little to no health remaining... lol Also, the Chainsaw bag over his head guy from Splatterhouse. Unless you had used the dual gun carry trick, you were hosed.

Cloud of eyeballs is a great band name.

I love the core gameplay of Legendary Axe. What I don't like is sone of the cheap or tedious design in places like that eyeball fight. I've never found it difficult, as you work into a rhythm pretty quick. It's just mind dumbingly tedious because you end up going through the sane simole motions for what feels like half an hour.
In many games, you can work into a pattern on a boss that feels fun and as though it takes some skill. The harder to kill enemies in Legendary Axe just feel like their HP is ten times to high and that's with your weapon at full power.
I'd still love a proper sequel with the same gameplay but better stage design throughout the game.

I've never beaten Shaft in Rondo of Blood despite trying many times, not even sure I've ever gotten to the Frankenstein's Monster form. The final boss in Monster Lair as well as the cactus one from the desert stage are pretty damn hard too.

I can kinda agree, but Legendary Axe is definitely about being methodical, including taking half steps across the screen so it doesn't scroll all the way. I love LA 2 and for me it's somewhat a proper sequel because it incorporates vertical level design, but that game is far too easy imo if you stick with the sword. Super Star Soldier's final boss is a five phase monster, and I feel like if you lose the lightning it is impossible to beat the brain. It took many consecutive run-throughs of the game for me to be able to maintain my weaponry.

It doesn't look that hard to do as Richter when I watch youtube videos of that fight but I just could never seem to do it.

Fantasy Zone. I can get so close to beating him, but once you get that game over, you have to start from the beginning of the game. So, I just don’t have the desire to keep trying once I fail.

Do you use the heavy bombs? Some people use the firebombs, but the heavy bombs i can use directly over the blue tongue guy. Could never get far in Fantasy Zone 2...a lot more complicated of a game. Super Fantasy Zone is beatable but has a lot of gimmick levels.
