You apparently did. Here's the blurb from Wikipedia: The Japanese model includes 24 TurboGrafx-16 (American) games and 34 PC Engine (Japanese) games for a total of 58 games. The international models however includes 25 TurboGrafx-16 (American) games and 32 PC Engine (Japanese) games for a total of 57 games. Five of the games are counted twice by Konami as they are available in both their TurboGrafx-16 (American) and PC Engine (Japanese) versions on all region's models. The title Splatterhouse is also technically counted twice, with the uncensored PC Engine (Japanese) version being exclusive to the Japanese model and the censored TurboGrafx-16 (American) version being exclusive to the international models. In addition, three of the other PC Engine (Japanese) games are also exclusive to a specific region, with Tokimeki Memorial and Tengai Makyō II: Manji Maru being exclusive to the Japanese model and Salamander being exclusive to the international modelsAnd on the Konami English language page for the unit, you'll notice no mention of Tokimeki Memorial, for example, among the US TG-16 titles or the JPN PCE titles. www.konami.com/games/pcemini/us/en/Konami has a press release with title list, too. You'll notice the Japanese exclusives missing from that list. www.konami.com/games/eu/en/topics/15224/I can't find any evidence to support how you think it's supposed to work, actually.

Oh crap. You guys finally drove me crazy! Is region switching mentioned in official sources for the Genesis? I ask because it probably isn’t but it definitely works. EDIT: this hands on from September says that you can switch between languages and get different games, exactly like the Genesis one. www.google.com/amp/s/www.polygon.com/platform/amp/2019/9/13/20862189/turbografx-16-mini-pc-engine-impressions-tgs-2019He specifically mentions switching to Japanese and not being able to play Snatcher for language reasons. EDIT EDIT: It seems there really are 2 exclusive titles for Japan but also one can switch regions like the Genesis one. I’d imagine the music is the reason they don’t export Tokimeki and Manji Maru.

From another video preview I saw, that just switches between the included Japanese and Western games. Whether you can actually change the language of the system itself and get access to the other titles, I don't know. I haven't seen anyone say as much, but who knows? It would be nice, especially for the Japanese version of Splatterhouse.
At least we get Salamander, though!

That’s exactly how you “get access” to the other titles, you change the language. I’d be pretty surprised if it wasn’t almost exactly like the Genesis Mini which changes not only the language of the system but the covers of the games, which versions of games are available, all the on-screen text and some icons. Everything gets labeled Mega Drive, etc.
It seems that with the PCE/TG-16 they actually made a different image to put on the different systems just for the sake of omitting two games with union musicians’ work on them from release outside of Japan. Maybe not literally union but let’s say well represented. Joe Hisaishi did some work for Manji Maru and he gets paid. I’m not sure what would be holding back Tomimeki but it’s probably something like that.

Probably some hidden shower scene in Tokimeki I can’t remember if this game has any nudity. I’m pretty sure it doesn’t. I’d suspect music is also the reason this game wasn’t included. It does have vocal themes.

Everything gets labeled Mega Drive, etc. This is true, but it doesn't chance the lineup. The Genesis Mini actually has somewhat different game selections for the US and Europe, Asia, and Japan. The Turbo Mini, unless Konami pulls a last minute surprise, looks like it'll actually have a much more consistent lineup. Also, there's a toggle right on the main screen to switch between the US and Japan games, so there's no need to change the menu language. I believe the video in that Metro UK article that was just linked shows it in action.

I didn't see this mentioned in the thread, but apparently alien crush on the mini is going to actually be the PC engine version according to the website. There's a little disclaimer next to it explaining that. However, all that really does is change the title screen.

Ah, yeah, that may have been the thing that did it, hard to say. Back in the day that would have been scandalous but nowadays gaming is vastly more explicit and perverted than that even in US stuff. With Snatcher on there we’re already in MA territory. I guess since we know exactly what year of school these girls are in it’s hard to pretend you aren’t sexualizing minors...

Thinking in a similar matter, it seems super obvious why MANJI Maru would be removed. They changed the way they wrote his name for all those ports they did of it like 15 years ago. If they don’t want to hack the ROM it’s best to not let it leave Japan.

With retro-hype at a fever pitch these days it's hard for me to get excited about some of this stuff coming out, but I just pre-ordered a US unit a few minutes ago after reading parts of this thread. lol

Thinking in a similar matter, it seems super obvious why MANJI Maru would be removed. And possibly, swearing too. I remember either FEOE2 or Kabuki Den (probably both) had a certain foreign character saying sh1t, g0ddamn and possibly f*ck. It's very common for Japanese media to get crap past the radar to include foreign swear words in their works as they're not prohibited from being used. Even the F-word appears frequently in (supposedly) kid-friendly comics, sometimes due to the insensitiveness of the authors, but more often than not this is intentional, especially for stuff that're not supposed to be exported (and when they're exported, the translations would be censored to make them less offensive anyway).

Maybe. Snatcher is an MA game though, right? And swearing is allowed in MA games (now anyway) so I’m pretty sure it’s the Manji kanji and Konami just not wanting to explain it to anyone.
