What games do you like to play to show off how good the system is? I am trying to get my 13 and 8 year old girls into my retro love again but it can be a hard sell.
Soilder Blade gets there attention and Bonks gets the smiles but those are my go too’s What’s yours?
Even for the duo, tg16 cd and the pcengine would be fun to hear.

Sparky is back!
I always thought Darius Plus and New Adventure Island are fantastic games as well as great technical pieces.

Usually, when I show people my Duo who haven't seen it yet, I pop in Blazing Lazers first for let's say half an hour. And then we go for a five-player-round of Bomberman 94.
Those two should win most people over. Devil's Crush has been proven very popular, too. Get some friends together and everybody gets a chance to play for a highscore.
All three are easy to get in, yet have enough depth to keep you playing. Nice, clean visuals, good music, good controls. Were also available on the Wii Virtual Console.

All have already been mentioned, but my girls like the Bonk and Bomberman series, as well as Devil's Crush. When I used to show off the system back in the '90s, I'd choose Ys Book I & II, since CD games were so far ahead of cartridge games at the time.
I think Dungeon Explorer or DEII would be a great choice as well.

The music gets cloying fast, but Splash Lake is insanely fun and supports 2 player simultaneous play. Chew Man Fu is also a good introductory title.

When I have turbob running at cons, I'll stick to solid games like like Ninja Spirit, Legendary Axe, Devils Crash, Parodius, New Adventure Island and Spriggan. If I get a feel for the show and it is more gaming centric instead of anime-weeb, then I'll break out Gates/Winds, Bloody Wolf, Dragon Saber, Jackie Chan, Kabuki fighter, Parasol Stars or Splatterhouse. My thoughts are not to show off the technical(visual, programming) best games but ones that have a decent pick-up-in play feel along with being fun(plus, games that I own). Often attendees will ask for Dracula X but I do not know why someone would want to sit down for hours playing through it while at a crowded noisy event?(but ppl have...).
I have noticed that on the flash card at shows, attendees figure it out and end up switching games themselves...and inevitably it'll be on some NES port/conversion when I check up on things.

Given the challenge of trying to show off a system so that a modern gamer could appreciate it is a challenge. Even with my kids who grew up with old school games in the house, it was still a challenge. But, I usually try and pick some games by genre:
Bonk’s Revenge is usually first up and usually the Hucard I show off first. The first CD game I typically show is either Gate or Lord of Thunder. Also, I like to show Street Fighter II, just because usually the Hucard size gets their attention.
However, given I sold my collection years ago, I don’t show anyone anything anymore.....
Oh I forgot to say, then I show off Mysterious Song Remake and Pyramid Plunder, just to show that “Hey I have worked on a video game!” And that there is still a community that makes these games

A big part of the appeal of the system to me comes with games that are weird, unique and charming that you don't find on other systems. For that, I've found success with showing off Bakushou Yoshimoto Shinkigeki and Ane-san. Neither game is going to win awards for gameplay, but they're both weird and interesting enough to keep people's attention.
