A little bit harder for exclusives
Bomberman, 93, 94 (each introduced new ideas that would be implemented in snes sequels...5 players, new arenas, rouies)
Legendary axe (fluctuating power meter) Military madness Dungeon explorer (turned Gauntlet into open Workd) Tengai makyou ziria (reaches new heights in presentation, not sure about gameplay)
New adventure island and Parasol stars were amazing refinements but I’m not sure they did anything new
Ports- some came out super late
Gradius R-Type Rainbow islands Wizardry River city ransom Super dodgeball Tower of druaga Street fighter 2 Fantasy zone Space harrier
Edit:forgot fire pro wrestling and F1 circus, both were huge
Genpei toumaden and wonder boy dragon trap were important, relevant at the time of release, ports

Geishika Boy seems to be pretty unique

You guys forgot that obscure series with head bonking and spinning gameplay.
Tengai Makyo Ziria isn't very special and was a last minute rushed game after they lost their work on the more ambitious project and early demos were only that.
Tengai Makyo II is the first special game in the series and most of Chrono Trigger is taken from it. But all of the stand out features were likely found in other games. It was more of an epic production that did so much right and popularized cinemas and CD features, even though many games already made good use of them.

Tokimeki Memorial - a cute dating game without the hentai and has lots of hidden bonus games ? Although there are moments of hentai but very briefly and can be missed.
Brandish - with its unusual perspective of always facing upwards whichever compass direction you turn. Edit although this is a port I'm not sure if it's been repeated on the pce.
Gomola speed - Has this ever been recreated ?

Blue Blink. It featured multiple, simultaneous characters under one player's control in a platforming adventure. The only game that's anywhere similar that I can think of is Knuckles Chaotix. I recommend newcomers try out this game as it's one of the few PC Engine games to be fan translated. I'd love to have a physical copy one day. Artist Tool predates Mario Paint Burning Angels-World's first tri-stick shoot 'em up ...I've got more but will post it later
Edit: I edited out my Tengai Makyou comment as I misread Black Tiger's earlier comment above. Sorry BT

Exactly this. I really feel like this game has some of the most unique features of any PCE/Turbob game released. We wouldn't see similar gameplay until many years later with a series like Katamari Demacy on the Playstation 2. I love the quirky japanese feel to it, and I mean.. c'mon who wouldn't love playing as a slinky climbing on walls with machine guns strapped on your back?

Burning Angels-World's first tri-stick shoot 'em up Tri-stick? Can you elaborate? It's "hot-babe shooter" innuendo.....I may have went too far haha! Nectarsis actually texted me asking the same question. We had a good laugh.

Tengai Makyo II is the first special game in the series and most of Chrono Trigger is taken from it. Do tell. I recently played about 70% of the way through Tengai Makyo II and can't see any similarities other than the main characters having spiky hair, swords, and single mothers.

hmmmm I missed out Daichi Kun Crisis - Do Natural. Perhaps a precursor and inspiration to Harvest Moon games and farming sims. It's also like a beat 'em up and castle defence game all in one so the gameplay is not relaxing and.... you have to combat the seasonal elements.
Be prepared for long sessions and defeating a boss you can save your progress.
