That was really cool. Thanks for sharing! Altered Beast is such a strange fascination because I don't really think the original was that great, but here we are still hoping that we'll get a 'good' follow up to such a mediocre game.

Altered Beast came at just the right time for me when I was but a wee lad. I was able to know and love the arcade version before the Genesis hit the market, so I was all droolin' and slobberin' when I saw that huge Genesis box with the Werewolf on the front. And that version didn't disappoint either. The transformation scenes are smooth and accurate (unlike the PCE version's), and the sound and music were excellent. Sadly I never got to own one of those sweet Genesis boxes, since my dad bought my Genesis used, but that didn't stop me from playing the heck outta that game. Good times.

AB never did anything for me in the arcade or Genny, but I played it nevertheless.

This dude needs to watch his volume levels a lot more closely. Good volume normalization is key for stuff like this.

Nowadays it's just a very simple sideways scroller, but BITD on the Megadrive it was killer. It had two players, right? And getting to the next level and seeing what the next transformation would be was very exciting. My fave was the dragon.

Even in the arcade the gameplay was never particularly great. It was always about flashy graphics and nice audio presentation.

My main goal was to achieve the golden werewolf transformation bitd. ...and to save the girl at the end to watch her turn into a dove and fly around to that awesome end-game tune.
