Gunhed, AKA Blazing Lazers was one of the launch titles for the Turbografx, and many folks first look at the new console on the block, and what an impression it was. Often grouped with Hudson's soldier series, the title does share quite a few traits, though it is its own distinct entity. The game is impressive, with large bosses, well designed sprites, and an impressive amount going on onscreen with no slowdown. Some of the backgrounds zip along at a fair pace too. This game is a classic, and a clear statement by Hudson of their machines capabilities, featuring a lot of gameplay mechanics they would tweak and refine in later games - but as a first effort, they absolutely nailed it.
Alien Crush is the first of Naxat's pinball games on the Engine, and while not as good as Devil Crash, it's still a decent pinball game, especially for the time it was released. The visuals are obviously modelled on H.R. Geiger's alien, and it's a nice motif. There's really not too much to say about it, other than the fact that Devils Crash overshadows it, being quite excellent to Alien's mere "enjoyable".

Definitely Gunhed
Then again I’m just not a big pinball guy.
Kinda off-topic: The pce fanbase holds the multiplats to a standard. Is there a reason why genesis devil crush is not considered better? The music is on par, the bonus stage graphics are improved, and there’s a new final boss

The main board in Devil's Crush MD takes a big hit and the side bar is not attractive and makes the experience uncomfortable.
There are fewer voices and sampled sound effects and they're all gravelly.
The music is a mixed bag and most tracks are unbalanced.
I will never become invested enough to learn all of the nuances of the gameplay and don't remember if the different bonus sections are any good. I do remember that most of the new artwork is out of place.

This would be tougher for me if it were Gunhed vs Devil's Crush, but Alien Crush? Nope. Gunhed. For me, Gunhed is THE iconic TurboChip shooter.

When 3D console games became the norm, misguided magazine editors began talking about games that had cutting edge 3D engines as basically being style over substance.
What they're were trying to understand is one of the fundamental aspects that can make or break games. Games excel when they're engaging and atmosphere can be the most impoetant aspect.
Games with "simple" aesthetics or design can still excel at atmosphere. It's not about technically impressive feats, it's an experience that draws you in and makes you feel something.
I think that Alien Crush needs more technically impressive sound, but what makes it such an amazing game is the atmosphere. Devil's Crush is weaker in this regard and I'm not crazy about the visuals, but it still sustains great atmosphere through sound. The MD version of DC is kind of a distorted impression of that balanced atmosphere. It's a good example of how games can be more or less than the some of their parts.
Alien Crush will always be my favorite pinball video game.

Alien Crush gets my vote. It's the one other game I got besides KC at launch, and I think it's superb. Seems like it's usually only talked about in comparison to Devil's Crush, but it definitely holds it's own in terms of atmosphere (arguably more atmospheric, at least for me), cool mini game modes, and music. Much love to Blazing Lazers too, another crowd fave and one of mine too. But I knew AC would be the underdog here and needed some rep! (I would have chosen AC even if neck and neck!)

I love that this vote is Compile vs Compile. Compile did some damn good work on the system.
