Dungeon Explorer II is more Gauntlet-done-right for home consoles, and expands on the first game without changing the stuff the first game got right. We have lengthy animated cutscenes, expanded levels, CD music, and it's 5 players. 5 players! I am questioning right now why I don't own this game. Graphically the game gets things spot on, and you can save your game easily enough.
Parodius Da! Is a great conversion of the whacky Gradius-alike. I think this game is actually superior to both Gradius games (and Salamander) on the system because it plays similarly, but just entertains so much more graphically - plus you have a choice of ships aside from the Vic Viper, which really adds to the replay value. In some ways, this port actually improves on the arcade, with multi-layered scrolling in some sections that the original didn't have. Some of the animation is a little sparse, but this doesn't take away from the fact that this is a great shooter, and one of the finest crafted cute-em-ups on the system.

ANOTHER really hard one. I definitely feel like Parodius deserves to go further, but there's no denying that Dungeon Explorer 2 is really flipping good.

DE 2 while really fun loses to the near perfection of Parodius.

Parodius is definitely better on the snes (more levels, graphics, audio), though pce is still nice and has the cool caravan level
Dungeon explorer 2 is technically better than the first game though it doesn’t quite stick with me as much. Maybe the redbook?
I’ll go with DE2

I actually like DE better than DE2, and Parodius is both fun and impressive, so Parodius gets my nod.

Dungeon Explorer II, like the original, is another killer app for the PC Engine. There isn't anything like these games on other platforms and that includes all of the bastardizations.
DEII is great example of how a CD version of a game should be made and how the CD experience stands apart from cart games. Unlike the first game, there is so much to do aside from the main quest. Each class has its own dedicated content, there are more hidden characters to unlock and all new class upgrades. Even if it were only a single player game it would still be one of the very best 16-bit experiences. It really is as good as games get.
Parodius Da! is a cool game, but while DEII arguably deserves to be near the top of the PCE library, Parodius probably wouldn't break the top 100, there are three more similar games in the library as well as so many better shooters.

Super hard choice. Parodius is an amazing game, DE2 is a superb sequel. I'm just giving it to DE2 because of its epicness, but I'd like to vote for both.
