I love the anime intro, but I just can't get on with the flash style graphics. I'd much rather have a Sonic Mania low res pixelart style to it.

I love that the Lizardcube folks are involved as I thought they did a great job with the Dragon's Trap remake. And even though I'd have preferred pixel art, I dig this art style.

I hope that they announce more characters; didn't all of the Rage games have at least 3 playable characters? The fourth has less, and not mentioning the missed opportunity of having 4 characters playing in the 4th game.
I agree about the art style, but I am glad they didn't go half assed in between low res and high res art (pixel art with high res effects and ui etc).

It's LizardCube doing the art and animation. It's going to rock. Whether it fits the legacy of SoR or not is another question, but it'll still rock.
How long until they announce the PC Engine port?

This announcement came out of nowhere for me SOR ip seem so forgotten to sega.I'm fine with it's artwork for this sequel since it's by lizardcube and i like what they did with wonderboy.Still it's development is also handle by guard crush games so it's all western. No in-house sega at all,i just hope the game play will turn out right.Beside maybe having yuzo koshiro to compose some music tracks.Yuzo has been asked on twitter about the game but he had no comments at this time so dunno.

This is so good! I was just about to read up on this, and I *just* managed to get a copy of Streets of Rage 2! I was a big fan of the first one (though stunlock abuse kind of makes it easy) as for Streets of Rage 3... yeah, not sure I want to sell a kidney
And the graphics look OK to me, they're surprisingly well animated - it looks more like a cartoon than a game. Maybe they'll have a retro option for the fans? But that would probably be a bit OTT

Streets of Rage getting a revival is definitely a bit of good news. I expected either this, Shinobi, Alex Kidd, Golden Axe, or some other games of their ilk to be given a second chance at life after Sonic Mania sold as well as it did.
With that said, I honestly don't like the art direction. Sonic Mania was like the Saturn Sonic the Hedgehog game that I wanted and never received. I wish that they'd headed more to that sort of design philosophy and made the 32 bit Streets of Rage that could've been instead of what looks like a high res flash game. I also definitely hope that there will be more than 2 characters and that Yuzo Koshiro gives it some tunes.
Streets of Rage is one of my favorite games from the 16 bit era. Though there were certainly a lot of brawlers, I always thought that SoR was the best that existed on consoles. From the trailer alone, I feel that this game is quite disconnected from the original. When something like this (or, say, Sonic 4) comes up, I'd rather it was named something more akin to New Super Mario Bros. I don't feel that a multi decade long gap between games warrants a direct sequel. Why not call it "Streets of Rage: A New Beginning" or anything like that? Particularly if Yuzo Koshiro doesn't do the music, Noriyoshi Oba doesn't make the game, and the art looks, well, like it does. I feel that the number 4 does the original trilogy a disservice and seems to be too much of an attempt at a cash grab.
I say that, but at the same time I had no problem with Arc System Works' Double Dragon 4 so I guess I'm a huge hypocrite and only care about graphics? Oh well!

The absence of Yuzo is unfortunate. That's not always a bad thing (see Shinobi III) but that dark, urban dance music will be sorely missed in the world of Streets of Rage.

Is Yuzo not involved? There's supposed to be more announcements about the game so maybe they'll announce him doing the music, or maybe a few tracks?
