Legendary Axe II has very little in common with the first game, which makes me think that they're just outwardly similar titles that have been rebranded to capitalise on the fanbase of the first. Gone is the most innovative mechanic of the first game, the axe power meter, and in comes... well different weapons. (Including an axe of indistinct mythology). The game is an action platformer like the first, but graphically much darker. The main character seems Egyptian. The graphics aren't really anything to write home about, but they do the job. I haven't played this one, so I can't make any claims as to the controls, but people seem to like it, if not as much as the first one.
Kyukyoku Tiger is about as pure an arcade experience as you can have on the PC Engine, being a solid port of an arcade game. It's graphically very similar to the arcade, although slightly more colourful, but the arcade action is instant. There's a lot going on straight away, and it's not hard to power up your chopper to quite a formidable level in short order. I've made a comparison to Raiden in that games review, and it's worth going over it again here, both solid shooters that despite being coin op conversions, translate really well to home consoles. Backgrounds are varied and interesting, and it has a very exciting feel to it.

I've never liked LAII and every time I try it I like it less.

I also have no love for LA2 unlike Josh...but Axe 1 is pure gold. Tiger gets my vote only b/c it's NOT LA2. It's not the greatest shooter, but was fine for its time. I recall playing a lot of Tiger Heli in my younger days...so some nostalgia for it's sequel adds some love.

I'm of the glowing (smarter) minority that enjoys LA2 more than the original. And I really love the original too! So this is a no-brainer for me, as cool as Kyokyiererio Tiger is.

I found a love for LE2 after many years of considering it a bit meh. However, despite that, 2KT is such a pure shooter and cannot be denied my vote.
