I think it's fake. It doesn't appear to be a CARE4DATA pressing, but it also doesn't appear to be a proper PCE CD pressing either.
Did Mike get duped? I'm thinking so because he didn't know much about the game when he bought it (even that it was an arcade card game) so the only resource he has was Ian from Pat's NES Punkcast.
In my opinion, nobody should pay more than $50 or $60 for ANY copy of sapphire simply because it's so hard to tell the boots from the real ones these days. I have a boot... but I knew it was a boot when I bought it and only paid like $50 if that.

It's hard to tell with pics that blurry and colored by light. It's also impossible to know now what Tobias' latest revision actually is since he keeps working to fix any giveaway differences people bring attention to. But that's all for judging photos. It's obvious in person that the paper, print, finish and case are noticeably different from all Turbo and PCE CD games.
I think that nobody should pay very much for a game they don't know much about, let alone make any serious Turbo/PCE purchases based on what either Ian or Pat say.
If he had really done "a lot of research" then he would have known not to pay that much for an authentic copy.
It's cool that he enjoys it, as it really is a great game, even if part of the appeal is the "rarity".

Hey Black Tiger there's also something regarding Sapphire that I've been meaning to ask you. On my copy it seems the music tracks aren't lined up perfectly... sometimes you'll hear just a blip of music where there shouldn't be any for less than a second. My bootleg does this, all copies I've downloaded and burned to CD-Rs do this and the image file that I have on my SD3 also does this. Does the legit Sapphire do this?

I don't remember that, but likely wouldn't have noticed. I sold my sealed copy this past year for $500, but got a Turborip of it from the new owner. I'll at least listen for it tonight on my SSS3 setup which is currently hooked to my TV.

Well if it doesn't have that noise I'd implore you... please share that TurboRip!

It's exactly the same. :/ On the bright side, I think it's safe to say that it's part of the authentic experience and playing a bootleg or cdr copy isn't sacrificing anything.
