On the other site we had a nice list of info, tips and resources for artist. Going to see if I can still access the old posts and bring some of that info here. Color palettes, pixel art best practices, resolutions available etc. Please feel free to add info.

Here's the palette cheat sheet I made, click for the full size version. I prefer to sample colours rather than type values in so I use this all the time.

First off a huge thanks to Paul and Arkface for all these pointers back in the proverbial day.
Sprites come in 16x16 or 32x32 pixel widths and heights.
Sprites are limited to 16 colors.
Color 0 of that palette is treated as transparent. The other 15 colors (colors 1 thru 15!) in the palette are for sprites
There are 512 color options to choose from 9 bit color
Use RGB values that go in steps of 36
Example: R: 144 G: 36 B: 180
All background tiles share color 0, so every palette used for the background (palettes 0 thru 15) will have the same color in slot 0. Whatever color 0 is in palette 0, becomes the shared color.
All background tiles are 8x8 instead of 16x16.
