spenoza: Let's not just drop random emails claiming available items in chat, folks.

spenoza: We have a subforum for that. Put all the details there, not just some rando email addy.

bfrasure: I've been trying to develop for the pc-engine for a while now, the one thing I keep running into is the lack of dev tools, I'm working to try to improve that. The more approachable the code, the more new games we'll see.

bfrasure: I've been looking through the thread of documented special effects used in Turbo / PC-Engine games. We should try our best to isolate each of these and put them into a catalog where they can be used and seen again across games.

bfrasure: I found this pc-engine ChatGPT agent which is supposed to help with development. I've had really poor luck with it since it doesn't seem to grasp the limitations of the development tools but here it is: chatgpt.com/g/g-aHu3gysyO-gptg-16

elmer: Y'all have an assembler, a C compiler, multiple emulators, and the TED2 and TEDPro for testing your code on real hardware ... what dev tools do you feel that you're missing?

elmer: That's not to say that I don't think that there's more stuff needed, but my wishlist may be very different to your wishlist.

spenoza: bfrasure already suggested, essentially, a library for "special effects", which I take to mean stuff like line scrolling (multiple contexts), hsync for background layers, etc...

elmer: I guess that the next question would be "what kind of library"? A text document, a wiki, a set of assembly-language example programs, new HuC/HuCC libraries and example programs? None of those? All of those?

spenoza: Maybe a little developer survey is the answer, to find out what people want and what form or format would be most useful to them.

bfrasure: I just saw this - I'm thinking of recipes which at some point could be turned into ready-to-use code snippets.

bfrasure: While I may not fully advocate for assembly as a mainstream solution, I acknowledge that enhancing the documentation of common routines is currently the most critical priority, so if it can only be done in assembly, that is sufficient.
