I am aware of a few English localizations of Castlevania: Rondo of Blood, official and unofficial. I am wondering if there are translation differences between them. Below I will compile the versions and their differences that I know about, but I would love to learn more.
The English localizations that I know of:
- Castlevania: The Dracula X Chronicles (PlayStation Portable). The first official English translation.
- Castlevania Requiem: Symphony of the Night/Rondo of Blood (PlayStation 4). I don't know anything about this version.
- This romhack translation: www.romhacking.net/translations/846/. It appears to be pulling all of its English from Chronicles, but not everything in the game is translated.
- PCEWorks' releases. I found a few minutes of gameplay on YouTube and it looks like they're using the romhack.
The Japanese versions that I know of:
- PC Engine's Super CD-ROM² System. The original!
- Wii's Virtual Console service. I have read that the German opening uses the narration from Chronicles, but is otherwise unchanged.
- TurboGrafx-16 Mini. I haven't been to find if this uses the original German or new German opening.
Major questions I have:
- Does Requiem share the same translation as Chronicles? I often see Requiem described as "based off of Chronicles" but as I don't own either version, I have no idea what this means.
- Does the TurboGrafx-16 Mini version use the original or new German narration?
- Did Limited Run Games ever release the game for TurboDuo? I have found many articles referencing the announcement of a release, but nothing regarding an actual release.
- Is PCEWorks using the above romhack? I can't find any explanation in their product descriptions.
Let me know if there's anything I should update on this list!
