So some of the mini roms seemed to have been dumped around and i’ve been revisiting Fantasy zone and Salamander and surprised that apart from the gameplay tweaks and audio changes they also reworked the colours ? I’ve been testing out the originals and comparing with the mini updates.. Wonder why they went through all that trouble? pce mini rom running on og pc engine original pce ver mini ver original pce mini ver pce original Salamander mini ver pce original left side mini. right side og pce version. the other stages just seem the same

What are you using to capture those shots from Fantasy Zone? They're complete blown out.

Yeah, So many people made it sound like these more arcade like versions were amazing or something. Once I heard the music for Fantasy Zone and Gradius I was like, Uh-uh. I prefer the originals music way more. Having the voices in Salamander is kind of neat though.

It sounds way better.

I like the mini colors and music changes better. I’m firmly in the mini camp.

I would be interested to know how the original versions look on YUV compared to mini on RGB.
Original was officially composite, so this could be captured either composite->RetroTink, or Mednafen/MiSter with YUV-based palette. The mini is RGB to HDMI, so they may have actually altered the palettes to compensate for the fact that they were blown-out when displayed as RGB... (This is the rationale behind comparing them in this way)

It sounds way better. The melody for both Gradius and Fantasy Zone sounds out of tune to me with its wobbling all over the place. It actually hurts my ears but then again, I have relative pitch as a musician so I'm sure it doesn't bother most people.

RGB modded pc engine = ossc = video capture card then there is this arcade version running on yakuza like a dragon There's something wrong in your data path for the pce+ossc then because those ranges are seriously way too hot. You're getting serious clipping and saturation is incredibly blown out. At least, from those screen captures.
