Hey folks. Was listening to a podcast the other day and the person being interviewed suggested the SNES Wizardry was actually one of the better ways to play the earliest Wizardry title because it looked and sounded good and was much more accessible than going back to the various computer versions.
But now I'm curious to know how the PC Engine Wizardry stacks up against the SNES release. Does anyone here have experience with both and can offer some perspective?

While I own the PCE versions of all the games, I haven't really played them, and I don't even have a Super Famicom. From what I've read though, the PCE ports weren't considered good, while the FC and SFC ports were often praised for how good they were BiTD (at least those developed by or overseen by Game Studio). There are some information about the PCE ports in this page (scroll down a bit and use Google Translate if you cannot read Japanese) and overall there are a lot criticisms. (On the plus side, at least PCE has IV.)

The SFC port, which includes wizardry 1-3, came out in 1999, super late! So the folks making it were very well versed in SFC development, and it does have some really nice graphical flourish. I haven't played a lot of wizardry, but comparing them visually I can certainly see where the podcast is coming from on the SFC version. (it's also playable mostly in english)
