Here's some more info:
Definitely looks good, though I'm going to hold off for a bit, since it seems like there's a decent chance of an international version.

they did post something about that www.videogameschronicle.com/news/sega-says-high-costs-are-preventing-a-dreamcast-or-saturn-mini-console/i case the link isn’t working the article says : Speaking to Famitsu, Sega’s classic hardware producer Yosuke Okunari said that he had considered producing mini versions of the classic consoles, but claimed that the cost of producing parts for either a Dreamcast or Saturn would be prohibitively expensive. Sega’s latest mini console, the Mega Drive Mini 2, was announced earlier this week. “Some of you may say ‘this isn’t a Sega Saturn Mini’ or ‘I wanted a Dreamcast mini’, it’s not that we didn’t think about that direction”, Okunari said of the new Mega Drive console. “The development of new boards has been stagnant due to the Coronavirus and, of course, it would be a fairly expensive product in terms of cost.” Dreamcast was Sega’s final home console, marking the end of the Japanese company’s near-20-year stint in the console hardware market. However, despite its short lifespan the console produced many critically acclaimed game franchises including Shenmue, Soul Calibur, Phantasy Star Online, Crazy Taxi, Jet Set Radio and Rez. The console enjoyed a strong launch in North America backed by a significant marketing campaign, but ultimately sales declined as Sony’s PlayStation 2 arrived on the market.

Hard to believe a dreamcast mini would be consider costly when a raspberry pi 400 can emulate dc easily.

Hard to believe a dreamcast mini would be consider costly when a raspberry pi 400 can emulate dc easily. You forgot to consider the need for massively larger storage, analog sticks, twice as many controller ports, some kind of VMU functionality, etc. A Rasberry Pi is not a console, it’s just a bare PCB. Also, supply side issues have raised the price on everything, so even making another Genesis mini means it will cost more than the last one did to make and if you don’t raise the price you lose money.

I just mention the rasberry pi 400 cause it's all set and i don't see it costing over $200.00.Unless with the current chip shortage sega sees it to much trouble to manufacture so a dc mini is on hold.I'm only interested in the sega megadrive mini II for the sega-cd games but at this point it has gotten old, given genesis games have had there share of digital releases and compilations over the years.

It’s not “all set”. It’s a bare PCB. It’s not a fully realized retail product at all.

Still genesis re-releases have been done to death at this point the most i''ll give credit to the megadrive II mini is having sega-cd games.Any chance of a dreamcast mini is on hold for now.

This is cool, but I'm also hoping that this will inspire Konami to maybe do a Duo mini with maybe a few unreleased games and perhaps several more near arcade versions of a few games.

This since the TG16 mini was sold for a limited time i consider myself lucky i was able to buy one before it sold out for the u.s.

My mistake. It comes stuffed into a shit keyboard. It still has no storage. Shenmue 1 is bigger than a complete Genesis ROM set. Also it has no real controller of any kind. Would something based on this be more expensive than most mini consoles? Absolutely. This is %100 Sega-free and already costs $80, which is what Sega wants to charge. You know they need to charge for games, right? Because they want to be in business next year. DC games require an analog stick, two analog triggers. Some kind of VMU substitute has to be made, you have to re-ESRB the whole thing, package it, put in margins for retailers and distributors as well as the manufacturer. I don’t think you understand product design very well. You can’t design an engine and call it a car minus a few details. You’re recommending dehydrated water to the thirsty.

Just using it as a example nothing for the system that can emulate dc period.Yes i know a pi it's aimed more at the hobbyist then being sold at retail.Sega wants to hold off on a dc mini due to cost fine i'm just saying genesis re-releases,have been done to death so far.If the megadrive II mini get's a u.s release fine maybe a buy for me.

More games have been announced. Good that splatterhouse 2 and ninja warriors are being included used copies have become very expensive for those games.
