Well the music alone makes Dragon Spirit the winner in my eyes.

Gonna have to go with Cyber Core. I always found Dragon Spirit kind of boring, and the music didn't seem anything special. I like the music, graphics, design, pace, etc of Cyber Core much more (it's not a top tier title, but it's definitely underrated). There's also a version of Cyber Core for the x68000.

I prefer Cyber Core as I played it quite a lot as a teen but Dragon Spirit is good to though.

Spirit for me. I tried to like Core, but it wasn't my taste. After getting the secret super weapon, I traded/sold my copy. I can see the comparison is made with these two games because of the hit box size, but I keep going back to Dragon Spirit.
Of course, Dragon Saber is even better!

I've always enjoyed Dragon Spirit more... has to be due to the dragon! I like the music, I am waiting on Cyber Core in the post, I already have Dragon Spirit which I snagged complete and in great condition for just £17, I also got Final Soldier which is really good and less difficult, I promised a collection thread in December but I am still waiting on some games to arrive from Japan, I might make it a YouTube video rather than pictures and a list, I am hoping they arrive at the very latest on the 13th of this month as the seller stated.

I find Cyber Core very unremarkable. The level design is drab, the graphics and music are average, and the control feels a bit too loose for me. I've tried many times to get into it, but just can't...maybe I'm missing something.
Dragon Spirit, on the other hand, is pretty fantastic. Of course the music is special, but the level design is what makes it for me. I understand people will not have the patience to put up with its BS, since it's very much an RType-like memorizer, but when you get into it, it's very easy to get in the zone, driven by the pumping, surreal soundtrack and the dragon setting. Some of the levels even have nice graphics (very glowy when played on a CRT), although some show that it is an early release for the console. It is actually one of the most satisfying clears I've ever done. Actually, it was a 1 life clear, since once you get good, you will not die in the earlier levels, which are the only ones that give you enough leeway to re-power up, and if you die in the last couple (the last one being a complete asshole bitch), you might as well restart - obviously infuriating.
Dragon Spirit is not a particularly good port of the arcade, but in some ways it's actually better, and IMO, in the upper echelon of hucards.
So yeah, Dragon Spirit wins this one easily in my book.

I enjoy them both, but Dragon Spirit gets the nod from me. I find Cyber Core easier, though I think I've only cleared it once, and that was bitd. The music and atmosphere are what keep me coming back to Dragon Spirit.
I agree with majors that Dragon Saber is an improvement in practically every way.

Dragon Spirit is the winner for me. Nothing against Cyber Core, but Dragon Spirit was a favorite of mine in the arcade and one of the main reasons why I wanted a PCE.

I think Cyber Core is deffo underrated I'd shunned it for years until recent times.
But Dragon Spirit is one of those landmark early PCE games that hits the feels, first time I ever laid eyes on a PC Engine it was running Dragon Spirit in the Micro Centre, Portsmouth in the late 80s.
