Hey, folks. This has been a small project of mine for the last month and a half or so. I discovered *lots* of data for the Active Life Network set of PCE-CDs, and I've laid bare as much as I could here:

I like that the last dude in Appendix I is just going ahead and wearing what looks to be a Maison Ikkoku shirt.

That is my favourite pic of the whole lot; a mic drop for that page.

Less date-able: anime dude or bow-and-arrow guy? I spent way too much time trying to decide while looking at those photos.

This is really interesting and impressive stuff! Makes one wonder what other stuff is hiding in ISOs out there. I'd imagine telnet japan games would have a lot of weird stuff given the sheer volume of things they made for the console. I wonder if there's some unreleased stuff out there, or if it's mostly alternate versions of released products, or just random images as with no-ri-ko.

A lot of games have images which are either only accessible from a debug code, or a debug code which became disabled just prior to release, or even assets which are no longer part of the game at all… but I’m not aware of many which have graphics that belong to other games entirely.

Nice find, Chris!! Such a weird thing to be on the PCE. Lots of stuff! Though not all of it is interesting. You can use YYchar and just open the data tracks in the editor. You just have to make sure the data track file is ISO or cooked and not raw. You can tell by looking at the CUE sheet where it includes the data track file. If it says mode 1/2048 then it's ISO or cooked mode. I found alternate sprites for Sylphia, arcade converted sprites from Riot City (in the Riot Zone/Crest of the wolf port), etc. Chris has posted images. There's bit of source code in there. Sometimes even CDDA wave data. A lot of games have images which are either only accessible from a debug code, or a debug code which became disabled just prior to release, or even assets which are no longer part of the game at all… but I’m not aware of many which have graphics that belong to other games entirely. I've found PCE other game data inside the unused areas in the data tracks. But I've also found NES game graphics in Aldynes rom for SGX. Anther PCE game (hucard) has english text for a localized NES game (tombs and treasures or something like that). Strider has another PCE game from 1991-2 in the data track.

Would love it if you could document this stuff!! It's probably a pain in the butt but people would love to see it. If you want to work on a little video together that could be something!
