So, I knew about SMT for some time, and I played the SNES version throught -I loved it, despite being a typical old school JRPG-. But I've recently learned it was ported on PC Engine CD, with graphics very similar to the original, voice acting during a couple of scenes, a handful of animated cutscenes and...uhh, a mildly different soundtrack (Still better than Puyo Puyo CD 2 for sure). Would you recommend giving it a casual try?

This one hasn’t been translated, so that is probably a deal-breaker for a lot of people… If the language barrier is not an issue, you might want to try asking on a Japanese forum…

I'd be curious to know the difference between the SNES and PCE port.

I'd be curious to know the difference between the SNES and PCE port. From what I've read: PCE adds 4 new demons, restores some sprites in Tokyo Destiny Land, an on screen countdown during the I.C.B.M nuclear...well, countdown, and FMVs for the more important scenes. Some music tracks are also PSG-based

Sounds like a pretty big deal then. At least all the animations would be an interesting part.

I never played the original SFC version, but my experience with the PCE version was that it's plagued with annoying load times. There were disc accesses before every enemy encounter, and encounters were frequent. I remembered there were even loading when you stumbled into a block with some NPC.
Most of the music were chip tunes anyway.
My point was, if you have already played the original SFC version, you probably couldn't stand the PCE version, unless you're playing on an emulator which eliminated the load times.

It's the same problem as the Mega CD port, really (That version also has way worse graphics and scrolling, in my opinion). I'm sure optimization would make the loadings shorter

How comes I only just noticed this thread...
I played a few hours of the pc engine version before getting stuck somewhere but this was years agooooo... anyhoo iirc.
PCE version the in-game PSG audio mix is done by Hitoshi Sakimoto and uses almost the same sounds found in Magical Chase.
Possibly may go back and try and complete this game. Big annoyance is that the music for this game if you try and upload gameplay vids to youtube and this happened to me I was given that copyright strike by none other than Sony. Again this was years ago so I don't know if it was a YT glitch that's been resolved.
