Hello everyone! I've always wondered something...well,the subject pretty much says it all. It seems like a big missed opportunity to me, since Taito was pretty active on the PC Engine (The eccellent Rainbow Islands, the forgotten Parasol Stars, Chase H.Q and another damn version of Space Invaders). I assume the conversion would be arcade perfect, aside from the audio, with bonus content like extra levels

Yeah pretty strange considering the game was just released the year before the PC-Engine. Maybe the game wasn't hot anymore when they started developing for it.
Yup, Rainbow Island is already pretty much arcade perfect besides the CD loading times. I would guess the FM chip is a problem for the PC-Engine. The PSG can supposedly do some FM magic with one of its channels though. Rainbow Island also has an FM chip but I assume the PC-Engine version uses red-book audio as it loads when a new song is to be played.

Yeah, the PC Engine's sound chip produces wavetables -Which are very similar to FM in some aspects-, as they were also used in Konami's SCC audio module for the MSX and many Namco arcade games from the early to mid 80s. I think the music can turn out great if you put someone talented behind it, given they know how the sound chip works (A BAD example of that is The New Zealand Story)

My guess is that Bubble Bobble didn't seem "Next generation" enough to merit a PC Engine port (unlike Parasol Stars/ Bubble Bobble 4). I would've loved to see a port of Bubble Bobble on Turbografx, as it was my favorite game as a kid.
The guy on here was developing a homebrew version but I believe it was abandoned. Maybe somebody can pick up where he left off...

Parasol Stars wasn't really ported to the PC-Engine it was developed for it and there is no arcade version AFAIK.
I meant the PC-Engine PSG has a special feature were it sacrifices one of its channels to use as the frequency modulation wave for one of the other channels. So basically you get one channel less but one of the remaining channels becomes an FM channel instead of wavetable. I haven't tried it myself though.
