More specifically: the DS Lite. It was always my favorite handheld, but like a dork I traded it in for the 3DS, forgetting that the 3DS was not region free. This meant that for years I couldn't play my import games. A friend of mine knew I'd been looking for a replacement, so yesterday he found an almost-new Polar White DS Lite, in box, at a Goodwill for $20. Score! So now I'm going back through my library, replaying some of my old favorites like the Dragon Quest remakes, Hotel Dusk, Tetris DS, and more. I also picked up complete copies of Trace Memory and Wario Ware DIY for dirt cheap today. But the one game I'm really looking for is the sequel to Hotel Dusk, Last Window: The Secret of Cape West. This game wasn't released in the US, but was released in the UK in English. It goes for upwards of $50-$60 on eBay, but if someone here is willing to part with one for cheaper, or knows where I can get one, please let me know. Outside of that: what are some of your favorite DS games? Any unappreciated gems you'd recommend? Here's a good list I found.

I picked up a flash card so I could play a fan translation of Saga 2, and the translation is pretty good. Only a few linefeed errors here and there. Too bad the last boss is one of those where you REALLY needed to grind more than expected first.

All the Dragon Quest remakes are pretty nice. Oh yeah and Advance Wars.

I had a hard time with the DS back then when it was new. Partially because I was still playing GameBoy Advance, partially because I never owned a DS by myself. Since my girlfriend owns a DS and 3DS, I decided to go for a handful of games. So I went for the three Castlevania titles as well as Project Rub/Feel the Magic: XY/XX That cover alone should be intriguing for most people, lol. It is pretty much a compilation of bizarre touchscreen minigames in a unique setting and quirky characters, where the player has to conquer the heart of his love interest. Kind of what Wario Ware does today.

For DS my most played and favorite game of the few I have is easily Little Red Riding Hood's Zombie BBQ, it's a little expensive but was well worth it since it's a lot of fun, is [usually] pretty satisfying to play, and it makes good use of the 2 screens. I can play this one over and over again and there are a few other game modes that I've somehow never managed to unlock.

The DS was a great system. The game lineup wasn't very good at first, but got really good by around 2006 or so. Anyway, some of my favorites are:
Pokemon Diamond - I remember playing this game religiously back around 2007 or so. It improved a lot from the 3rd gen Pokemon titles (Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald). Not a big fan of the translation though.
Pokemon Heartgold - A textbook example on how to remake a great, old game. Keep everything that was great about it while massively improving upon it. New features, redone graphics that look really good, great remixed soundtrack (you can even get an item that'll allow you to have the game play the original soundtrack instead), etc. It even has features that were cut from the original, such as the Safari Zone.
Nanostray 2 - One of the few notable shmups on the system. Soundtrack is great and the graphics are some of the best on the system.
Knights in the Nightmare - Very complex strategy game that takes a good while to get used to, but one of the system's better hidden gems.
Space Invaders Extreme 2 - Pretty much one of my favorite versions of Space Invaders out there. Very addicting!
Custom Robo Arena - This game is pretty much digital crack. It was very hard for me to put down once I started playing. It's a very unconventional 3D fighter that allows you to mix & match different body parts and weapons of your robot and have it duke it out against other robots.

Man, I do love the DS. I've been trying to snap up some good stuff recently, while it's relatively cheap.
Fave games, I loved the Ace Attorney series, the Layton series, and Ghost Trick. God damn Ghost Trick was amazing. They released it for free on ios bitd and I really wanted my girlfriend to get it so I could share it. My little collection is below:

Most of my favorites have already been mentioned.
Contra 4 and Nanostray 1 & 2 are all pretty good. I spent a lot of time with Contra unlocking all the stuff.

I picked up a handful of games this weekend: I've also got Final Fantasy Tactics A2 and Advance Wars DS on the way. That should keep me set for a while.

Favorite DS game of all time is Retro Gaming Challenge. I picked up a copy brand new back on release at BEST Buy. I'm glad I did with its prices spiraling upward currently. I've played through the main story probably 20 times. It did the "retro" thing better than 99% of the current stuff and it came out over ten years ago too at that.
