Looking for a USB mouse -> PC-98 converter, huh ? Any ideas where I could find out what the protocol is ? I've been able to make mouse converters for PC Engine and PC-FX, and I made a board to convert modern USB joypads to XE-1AP for the PC-98, so it shouldn't be too hard... The mouse port on my particular PC-98 model uses the d-sub9 type. Here's the page of a guy who modded a USB mouse for PC-98, including pinouts. Not sure how easy it is to understand. akipara2.sakura.ne.jp/new_page_837.htmAlternatively, the other type of PC-98 mouse is the "bus mouse". If I had a USB to bus mouse converter (like the ones they sell at classicpc.org), I could just use a bus mouse to d-sub9 converter for PC-98 (which are trivially cheap and easy to obtain here in Japan). en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bus_mouse

Hmm... looks like the classicpc.org devices are based on this open-source design (with some minor board layout modifications): www.waitingforfriday.com/?p=827It looks like you're not alone in wanting to use USB mice on a quadrature system either, there are several do-it-yourself projects, like this: learn.adafruit.com/next-bus-mouse-to-usb-hid-with-circuitpython/about-bus-mice...and this one is ready-to-build (but for Amiga computers, so pinout might be different): www.pcbway.com/project/shareproject/RP2040_USB_Mouse_to_Quadrature_15de42f1.htmlUnfortunately, I don't have a system to actually test one of these on though. It does seem like there should be more competition for your dollar though... especially with the RP2040-based designs (the RP2040 is roughly $1, whereas the SmallyMouse microcontroller is more like $12). Not sure if you're in Tokyo, but between Kaden no Ken-chan and BEEP, there should be other choices from smaller makers...

Kaden no Ken-chan was selling the converter I wanted, but W341 stopped making them. I've been on the waiting list for a year or so now. Looks like W341 is probably not planning on making them again. BEEP was selling the same one. Ken-chan is now selling a new type one for 9,878 yen! That's even more than the classicpc.org one. EDIT: Just also found W341's twitter account. Apparently they are still making them but can't keep up with demand. They were selling some at comic market last December.

This time I did a video on a game based on the anime "Slayers", and I think you'll find it enjoyable whether you've seen the anime or not.

Here's another one that was on the Turbo! The original version of Snatcher! Lots of mentions of the PCE version in the video too, of course.

YouTube notified me ... I'll watch it this evening. Thanks! :-) Thanks! In case anyone is wondering, originally the thumbnail was just a picture of the duck character from the game with a "Top Gun" parody logo that says "Top Duck". However with that thumbnail the video was getting the poorest performance I've ever seen for the first hour, so I chickened out and changed it to the more conventional one displayed now. Now it's performing as expected.

Whether you've never heard of the series or are a diehard fan... Very nice as always. I had been a little confused on "Touhou" in the past. I used to think it meant just a fan-made STG but later realized it was a specific game serires (made by one person). There have been a lot of releases, the creator is prolific!
