My wired 360 pad is dying so I need a decent replacement.
It's impossible to get new 360 pads now, but there are a lot of lookalikes on Amazon, but I'm not sure if any are decent. There always seems to be concerns about drifting or bad dead zones on the analogue sticks.
Can anyone recommend a good brand?
P.S. I prefer wired, I'm on Windows 7. If I have to go wireless, then I do have a couple of 360 wireless pads, but I'll need to find some receiver or something I guess?

Yes the 360 pad works wirelessly if you buy said dongle, but if you prefer wired any of the hori 8bitdo or retrobit controllers work great. I use ps4 and switch pro controllers wired and wireless on my machine and they work great (wireless requires bluetooth).
The downside to ps4 wired connection is the uab port gets damaged over time as you set it down on the desk while plugged in unless you have a short or perpendicular micro usb connector. I've gone through 4 controllers in ~5 years because of this

I already use a PS2 dual shock for emulators, but I really need a 360 style pad for more modern games. I've never been comfortable with the pad position on the PlayStation pads and much prefer the Xbox layout.

A lot of folks say very good things about the Xbox One pads.

A lot of folks say very good things about the Xbox One pads. Yeah, but I'm on Windows 7 and all I'm reading is problems with it not working on 7. All the Xbone controllers on Amazon state Windows 10 only.

I found this info someplace. Does this match what you've been reading?
"You can't use Xbox One controllers on Windows 7 via Bluetooth. Windows 7 supports the controller ONLY via USB cord or the Xbox Wireless Adapter. Make sure it's NOT the Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows 10 (as this also only works on Windows 10), and not the Xbox 360 Wireless Gaming Receiver."

That sounds good, but also reading that Microsoft removed the win 7 drivers from their site https://www.reddit.com/r/pcmasterrace/comments/3vuvg8/manually_download_xbox_one_controller_driver_for/ Maybe I should just get a wireless receiver, cheapest I can find is about £17 which is a lot.
EDIT: I gave up and ordered a wireless receiver. I have 2 wireless pads, so may as well make use of them.
