Well, the writing was on the wall, but now it's official. The PCEngineFX.com forums have shut down with a message which will also go away soon. Many will have fond memories, and some may say "good riddance", but it would be impossible not to acknowledge that it was an important place for the exchange of information for many years. I hope that all of the important information was already extracted and has found a new home.

It's honestly kind of inconsequential for it to finally die - it's really been dead for ~2 years now. All of the information still exists as an active forum here - www.pcenginefans.com/forum/
The real problem is the fracturing of the community. There are a few people who refuse to participate in these forums, while most of the PCE related activity happens here. Forums are going the way of the dodo, but this fracturing has accelerated the demise. The activity of both these forums combined is still less than PCEFX, and I can't help but think its due to the spread of active users across two forums.
I don't think interest in retro games has gone down, but it does seem like the facebook/instagram/etc communities have taken over.

Most of us are in their 30s and40s and have gone on to more adult activities. I'll never forget how much those forums welcomed all with open arms (even though at times it was dysfunctional) and a wealth of information they provided along with some good friends. My only hope this coming generation will appreciate it more as time passes.

Shame really, towards the end the site did fall apart still nothing last forever.Id say my most fond memories was it's early years but not much else.Still the site later years was definitely chaos for how it was run and ultimately it's demise. Now it's just a split community for the fans and where they hangout now.

There are quite a few from the old forums that just hang out in FB groups now and don't even bother with either forum.
As for myself, I still prefer the forum layout for certain topics because there is then a record of the conversations had. Meaning it's good for preservation of knowledge that others can refer back to if ever needed.

Even more broad forums that cover many systems and interests are slowing down. Our particular piece of the forum world is relatively small. I don't think people like having to hop between different sites and platform for every different interest.

The forums were frozen in place for some time, but they remained available, if read-only. And the rest of the site content was still there, too. Sounds like that has finally changed. Aaron Nanto has better uses for his hosting space these days, I guess.

(Forums remind me of BBSs) When folks talk smack about what happened to PCFX in recent years, it reminds me of ppl that hate new Metallica or new Star Wars movies; No one is talking AWAY your memories and fondness (or tapes for that matter) for Ride the Lightning or Empire, you still have those...you just won't get anything else good from them. Just like at a wake, let's talk about the good times with our dearly departed. I've met some good people throughout the years because of a shared love of obey, and most of them are still here and I have their phone numbers!

Just glad after this Aaron won't anymore have any leverage in the community. Sad Fighting Street is going be lost forever now though. I feel like at the least he could have made the sub forum public, instead of reminiscing about himself being 12

Damn. I'm glad the forum is backed up so people can at least search it for info and what have you, but the site being down is a real loss, especially PC-FX World, in my opinion, considering how limited PC-FX info in English is online. I'm glad I had the foresight to back up some info from PC-FX World to my PC for my own reference, since I've been in this situation before where sites I really love that have unique content disappear, but I don't know if I saved everything I would want to see again, and it's not the same as the content being hosted online, available to everybody.
