Pardon the noob question. I just got a PCE Duo R. I love the thing. The composite picture connected to a CRT TV actually looks really good. I have a Genesis 2 with an HD Retrovision cable connected to the same TV’s YPbPr Component input and it’s a beauty. Like a noob, I ordered a PCE cable adapter for the Retrovision Component cables, without realizing that the PCE needs to be modded for RGB. Two options: (a) mod the PCE for $65 from the same eBayer that sold me the cable adapter; or (b) resell the cable adapter and leave my pristine Duo R alone.
For those who modded your PCEs, is it safe? I would love a sharper picture, but I’m pretty happy with the current output. The idea of soldering and running new cables through the board worries me a bit. I would love a perspective from someone that has done the mod.

It is safe as long as the person performing the mod is experienced. The pins on the video chip are very small. So it can be easy for someone who hasn't done this before to accidentally bridge connections or in some cases ruin the video chip altogether. Just have someone experienced do the mod and you will have nothing to worry about.
