Hi everyone,
I recently bought on Ebay a RGB Modded Duo-R in really great shape complete in box. It's said to be fully recap and cleaned. The Hucard play perfectly but not the disc drive. The disc starts spinning, I hear it's trying to read it and after something like 15sec, a *clac*, led goes off and on again, trying to read .... and again and again ... It doesn't says Disc error but can't launch a game. Stuck in an infinite loop. Tried with Audio CD, same thing even if sometime it goes to CD menu, it can't read tracks.
It reminded me my old PS1 so just for fun I flipped upside/down the console and surprisingly the game started ! In fact I was lucky cause that way it only works 1 out of 6 or 7 attempts.
As i bought the console in Japan and am in Canada, mailing it back is gonna cost me an arm. What do you suggest ? Changing the HOP-m3 ? Sending it back anyway ? Still haven't contacted the seller yet. Wanting to have some advices first.
Thanks by advance,
Victor

It might need a small lens adjustment.
However before attempting that...
Do you have the console setup near a bunch of other game consoles? If so, try moving it to another room and see what happens. This is to rule out any potential interference caused by other game console.

Wow ! Thanks that was it ! It was surrounded by other systems but once isolated it works like a charm Oo ... Never heard of that problem. Is there any solution to fix it ? Anyway, thanks a lot I can finally enjoy this great system

Back in the ‘90s, this was actually discussed from time to time, and it was never really clear why it happens. At the time it was thought that it had something to do with brownouts on the AC voltage, but I’d really like to know more...

I once experienced crackling CD audio in both my Duo-RX and JVC X'EYE that went away when I simply plugged those adapters into a different outlet in the same room. Noisy AC voltage seems a likely culprit. Unregulated wall-wart adapters typically only have one smoothing capacitor - a great big electrolytic - and the thing about those is that noise above a few hundred kHz will sail right by them. The 7805 regulators in the consoles also have poor ripple rejection at higher frequencies. A good switching power supply is likely to cure the problem. Alternatively, it's possible to buy plugs like this that act as filters. Putting one of these on whatever is making the noise (likely a switching power supply in a nearby device!) is just as likely to fix the problem as putting it on whatever is affected by the noise.

Sorry for the late response. Hook up the power supplies to your other game consoles to a separate Power strip that you can turn off. Most likely all the power supplies drawing power at the same time is what is causing the issue.

Wow. This is crazy, had not heard about this at all. Maybe the FCC was onto something with all the extra shielding for the U.S. @victor, just out of curiosity, are you using the original JP power adapter?
