Anyone pick this game up?
There's a very steep learning curve, but I am slowly making my way through. I think the mechanics are finally starting to click...have killed three main bosses so far.
My three main gripes though, are
1. lack of good loot (no armor, no weaponry...you can find prosthetic tools but they have rather niche uses...I find the firecracker to be the most useful. Finding significant amounts of upgrade materials also requires using a bell to make the game harder, though it can be switched on or off)
2. repetitive environment variety
3. many mini-bosses require stealth to pick off the arena first...then you need to do a stealth deathblow on the mini-boss (halves it's health) just to make the fight manageable)
Not the "Bloodborne 2" I was hoping for...but so far it is a pretty solid game.

I really want to pick this up but their 3D engine has frame pacing issues which for a game of this calibre just annoys me so I can't decide whether to buy it now or just wait and pick it up 2nd hand, wait for price drop etc....

I am a sucker for grapple hooks in games, and removing the stamina meter allowing you to dash constantly both make the game feel significantly faster and different from the dark blood demon borne souls.
I also like how easy it is to stealth kill the small enemies at first.
I'm disappointed to hear the environments don't change much, but the first few really capture the feel of being in those japanese castles. It felt very reminiscent of when my wife and I went to Hemeji castle.
The difficulty is too high, imo, but people seem to love that. If I paid 60$ I imagine it'd be more value, rather than walking through the game easily. I am enjoying the game, its addicting to try again against the challenges, but it's definitely frustrating dieing repeatedly on these bosses(mini bosses??)

Scratch that on environment variety...there's some truly gorgeous areas later on. Hopefully this game gets some dlc though!
To Gredler's point...later mini-bosses are easier as you'll have more upgrades and they won't be as surrounded by gank squads. The ogre is definitely BS though, because you don't want to deflect him and he can kill you in a single hit!
However, my new complaint is that the tools are rather niche. The firecracker is by far the best, and the shuriken works well on beast bosses when fully upgraded. But you literally get 10+ different tools in the game.
I know people complained about Bloodborne for lack of build variety...but it is really egregious in Sekiro.
I am at the final boss (23 hours in), though I will try to complete the optional boss beforehand...the power-up would help a tad I'm sure.

I am about 3 hours in, and enjoying it more and more. I am really glad this is not like a souls game beyond the UI, and resting/respawning of enemies mechanic. I could never get into the plodding confined nature of the blood demon dark borne souls games but this one lets you run around so willy nilly it feels much more like an action game than those previous titles from from

The final boss was absolutely brutal...harder than any Souls dlc boss, but certainly worth it! If you do NG+, don't give the charm to Kuro. I did without knowing what it does, and it makes the game permanently more difficult (mini-bosses could kill in a single hit and deflecting is much less useful...forcing a hit and run approach with the wet noodle sword)

I'm really enjoying this, though it's harder than Souls, mainly due to their being one play style that can't be cheese by leveling up. It's all skill and pattern memorization.
Rewarding as hell when you get it right though. My wife was laughing at me when I beat Lady Butterfly. Half the apartment complex heard be hollering lol
