Backstory is I bought an old $30 Dell XPS laptop from the fleabay months ago. It's s a slick unit but is old (core 2 duo and this weird Nvidia GPU that uses system RAM as VRAM). Anyways, it is for work when I need to access our building management system locally or setting up A/V crap in the building's auditorium etc. As a bonus I have loaded it with a nice Emulation Station build and put interesting indie titles available from Steam on it.
I'm looking for games you recommend that will run on low spec hardware.
So far these are games I have played through and loved: Both Angry Video Game Nerd games Axiom Verge Bloodstained (Curse of the Moon) Broforce Cursed Castilla Hotline Miami Games The Messenger Mother Russia Bleeds Retro City Rampage Shovel Knight Sonic Mania Spelunky Stardew Valley Super Hydorah Westerado
These are games I own but haven't had a chance to play yet: Mount & Blade Oniken Running With Rifles

Portal series (2 will run on a potato) Half-Life series VVVVVV Super Meatboy Ys Chronicles Ys Oath Sonic CD Super House of Dead Ninjas (you can try the flash version to see if you like it, essentially the full game) Wonder Boy Returns Wonder Boy Dragon Trap Dark Souls Prepare to Die Edition (get the steam key off of G2A, it was pulled off of steam for the remastered port) Grand Theft Auto III, Vice City, San Andreas Rayman Origins Monolith Downwell Postal 2 Ty the Tasmanian Tiger 1, 2, 3 Rayman 1, 2, 3 (GOG, though Rayman 3 runs better on dolphin)
Dolphin runs on pretty low-spec hardware, not sure about PCS2X
Not sure how good your internet connection is, but you can try PS NOW. For $20 a month (bit high) you can play a selection of ps3 and ps4 games
I tried out bloodborne with mixed results. The small amounts of lag on my end make certain bosses impossible, and I used to play this game a lot!

I've been watching some neat videos, so I'm not sure how they run, but they're not doing anything particularly fancy. Kingdom Two Crowns is a beautiful game about resource management set in feudal Japan. The Messenger is a really nicely designed platformer with some decent humour.
There was also a game I wanted to play a while back called Stealth Inc, that's a few years old though. And goddammit, I'm remembering loads of games I meant to check out. Maybe they're all cheap now.
The Blackwell legacy is a point and click adventure. I think I bought that from a humble bundle a while back. There was another really stylised game I started playing, but I can't remember the name.
Into the breach is a turn based game with kind of a puzzle element. I'm a fan of Advance Wars, and this looks similar.
Undertale is excellent. Really good story, just a generally fun experience.
Gungeon looks good. It's a hectic, bullet-hell roguelike dungeon crawler with hundreds of over the top weapons and subtle nods to other games.
Gone Home is hard to describe. It's kind of a game, but it's more like a story. I absolutely loved it though, and I have to admit, my emotions got the better of me at the end. If you've played and enjoyed Life is Strange, you'd probably like this.
Limbo is a really well polished platformer. I think I might replay it actually. That and Braid.
Ugh, To the Moon, Thomas was Alone, so many
Kentucky Route Zero was another one. I started it, but I got stuck quite early and then gave it up, it's supposed to be good though if you like point and click stuff

if you like mediocre rail shooters that look terrible at modern resolutions try deadly tide. It's not on steam but I'm sure it's probably cheap on the bay. It's enjoyable and used to run perfect in a pentium 75. still runs perfect on a 3.8ghz dual core. Doesn't require patching or comparability mode stuff for more modern widows too.I used to play it for hours.
