Hey Everyone,
I'm thinking of picking up a Framemeister so I can happily play my TurboDuo on my 75" 4K TV. Question for you: would you recommend getting an RGB mod for the best possible image? I'm a total novice at this stuff, so I just want to get the thoughts of the experts here.
Also, do you recommend the Framemeister? I know it's spendy, but it does seem like the most recommended unit to buy for this purpose.
Thanks!

If you run analog video, even RPG, straight to the TV, the TV will be doing all the digital conversion and up-scaling. Typically, that means there will be lag and it won't be pretty. A device like the Framemeister or an OSSC is a dedicated digital converter and upscaler, and those units can also add scanlines to improve image quality. They are the best way to improve image quality and reduce lag from analog sources.

Great, next question.
Where does one get an RGB cable for the TurboDuo these days? I'm having a hell of a time finding one online.

I think for the Duo you have to mod it. If you have a PC Engine or Turbo you can pull the RGB off the expansion port pins. Here's info on getting RGB from various Turbo/PCE units. retrorgb.com/tg16.html

I'm going to have KeithCourage mod mine for RGB. I think these guys sell the cables, but I'm not sure which one to get, the JP-21 or the SCART one. Does anybody in the US have a Framemeister and, if so, do you have any insight as to how you set up your Duo?

Talk to Keith about the cable. The PCE was never supposed to have RGB meaning that you have to replace the video connector. There is no standardized cable and connector which is why you’re having trouble finding one.

The link I posted above has the cables. The folks at this site give a pretty good rundown of RGBs an PC Engines/Duos, and in talking to the people on the Discord chat they said KeithCourage has done tons of Duo RGB mods in the past.

Keith does great work and does the highest quality RGB mod. Many/most RGB mods out their aren't great. He and mickcris typically include a scart cable with the mod. scart cables are cheaper and more universal, so it's better in the short abd long run to stick wurh them.
retrogamingcables sells an adapter cable to use scart on the framemeister, as well as an English translated remote control overlay.

Thanks for the info! Yeah, I talked to Keith and he's doing the RGB mod on both of my Duos, as well as including the SCART cable, as you mentioned. Do you know which adapter specifically I'll need for the Framemeister? I know it generally comes with one, but I'm not sure which. EDIT: Is it this one that I'll need from RetroGamingCables? Or is this what Keith will send me. Do these guys ship to the US?

Got it, thanks! I was just about to reply to this thread with that adapter, so good timing.
Thanks for your help! I've been watching videos all afternoon, so I feel like I'm getting a better handle on this stuff.

fwiw I have a 4k TV and the built in upscaler is great. I use the HD Retrovision component cables and plug it directly to the TV, and use the 240p test suite and lag is between -1, 0, 1, so I don't think my crappy reflexes will notice any lag. I highly suggest trying the 240p test suite lag tester to see if you really need a upscaler or not.
The 4k TVs have to upscale 90% of the content from 720 and 1080 to the resolution of the set, so IMO a lot of them have good upscalers built in.
