Hi again, back with a third problem. This Duo-R is full of fun.
I've set aside the RGB mod (still out of options) but now have a new CRT that can do NTSC colour, so I can actually enjoy my PCE. While Hucards work fine, CD games have some kind of broken audio effect.
I get this sound across all CD games: in Rondo it's when I press Run on the title screen and when Death charges his projectiles, and in Panic Bomber it's everywhere. Immensely annoying to hear. I've recorded a video so you can hear for yourself: youtu.be/h2Jv4tF1OOs
I've inspected the CD area of the board and everything looks okay. I did a full system recap as part of my RGB mod and I feel qualified to cleanly swap caps. Polarity has been triple-checked, but as this is one sound and not something constant, should I be looking at the ICs?
Any and all help is appreciated.

Post a picture of the area of the board that is under the CD drive assembly. Those are the traces+chips dealing with CD audio.

Sorry, I meant for you to lift up the CD assembly and take a picture of what is under it. Still the top side of the board. I want to look for bad traces. Oddly enough, I've worked on a few DUO-R systems where there was a Black looking trace in that area of the board that needed repair to fix the audio sound you are describing. It might be the same thing.

The second photo of the album is what you're talking about, no?
Whereabouts was that bad trace located? Both sides of the board look okay to me, but knowing where to hone in will be a big help.

I would assume it's a bad trace or connection somewhere in this area. These 4 chips handle data signals and when one of them isn't getting something it should, then you hear data sounding junk from the audio.

Wew, I have my work cut out for me. Thanks for the help; I'll report back if I can make progress.

Start with the smaller chip up top. Make sure all those traces are good. I found a bad trace there once that was causing a static sound without it connected.
