Hi guys! I recently discovered this great console, PC Engine and decided to add another game to its homebrew collection, so let me introduce you to the game Alter Ego, which was originally created for the home computer ZX Spectrum, and was later ported to other consoles and computers. You can read more about this in my blog. At first, I would like to make a complete copy of this game in the form in which it was on the NES. Then it would be nice to add some effects. At the moment I am working on a music player and a format for storing tracks for it. I'm not sure if I will finish this project quickly, as I have other projects as well, but if you are interested in this game, I can inform you about the development progress in this thread. Thanks for reading, and we'll see you in the game.

I've played it on the Spectrum, it's great. Looking forward to seeing how the 'Engine version turns out.

Elmer also has an almost (?) ready sound subsystem. Despite Squirrel and Elmer's solution, audio is still a somewhat nascent area of home development.

The only usable sound solution for HuC is Squirrel, everything else is academic/hypothesis/private with no usable functions in HuC

I stand corrected, then.

Yeah, I must say I expected it. But the musician decided to work with the Deflemask tracker, and has already created two tracks, so there is no turning back for me. I was able reduce the size of the VGM dump by about 50% and I would also try to search for duplicate fragments in this optimized dump and optimize it even more. This method works great for AY-3-8910 dumps and sometimes such a dump is smaller than the original Vortex tracker file. However, HuC6280 has more registers, but I'm feeling very hopeful.
Thanks for the hints anyway, I hope this sound engine will also be useful to me in the future.
Well, here is the first version of two tracks, title and level 1, check it out. The music for the NES version was composed and remixed for the PC Engine by Richard 'kulor' Armijo. Hope you enjoy it.

Elmer has been working on an engine (or he was, anyway) that was designed to take Deflemask output. You could PM him to see if he's at all interested in sharing, but YMMV. There have been some hard feelings around here about some of this stuff, so PMing is the way to go.

I love the concept of switching places with your "alter ego" ... the music sounds great! especially that second track - pc engine does well with those jazzy tunes. Agreed, it sounds great.
