What's wrong with arts and crafts? Do you actually not understand what software piracy is? Ethics aside, do you know the definition? Let's actually put that aside for a moment. I'm no stranger to downloading ROMs. Technically illegal, yes, but there is typically no exchange of money, at least, so grey area moral arguments can be made. Once you're paying someone for their act of copyright infringement on your behalf, that takes things well out of the realm of any kind of moral grey area.

Well, first you have to understand what piracy is. If someone doesn’t know what legal/illegal is they are never going to understand the subtleties of it either. That sounds like I’m just going out of my way and insulting collectards here but actually there are dumb dumb gamer otaku who have zero clue what “legit” actually is. Until that’s understood they will ignorantly post links to strait up pirate stuff like this and not even know why someone would complain. Mods may even do it.
There isn’t a single person on this site who doesn’t own a bootleg ROM of something and many of these people work in software so I think we’re all very cool and realistic about that. Its this quasi-Tobias stuff that upsets the stomach.
And I do mean quasi. This is some hunchback shit here.

I'm fine with stuff like this being sold at say $5-$8 for the music only. Just because someone has a talent with music doesn't mean it should just be free because it's a gigantic time suck. Then one could rip it and make a game disc if wanted. I stopped playing live music and recording music because most people who are not musical just assume you will play for free since you are talented and it takes no time or work to prepare which is entirely wrong.
Or maybe have a web page where this stuff is offered as a patch for free but have a donation option setup via patreon to help fund future like minded projects. This option would probably sit much better with most folks.

I'm just curious were you guys also upset about Sunteam's selling of art-books based on PCE/Turbo imagery/games without permission? Is it just the fact that it's a CDr of a game or the music itself? Would you be less upset if it was just a remixed soundtrack?
The music CD is $7 and Saru did the disc art, so I'm pretty stoked about getting a copy of that.

While Pixellence does contain a good deal of imagery for the games due to the design nature of the book, they are all accompanied by text reviews. I was conscious of this when I designed it.

Just because someone has a talent with music doesn't mean it should just be free because it's a gigantic time suck. This isn’t a case of “music should be free, man!” It is a case of selling copyright infringement. It should be free (or never have been created to begin with) because profiting off copyright infringement is a super big moral and legal no-no. While all non-fair-use copyright infringement is illegal, there are moral arguments to be made in favor of fan projects. Once selling a fan project enters the picture all moral bets are off. Basically, I have no issue with it existing. I take issue with it being sold. Money transforms fan projects into commercial activity, and this commercial activity is clearly not fair use or fair dealing. If Electrohaze wants to sell his musical talents I’m all for it, but it should be his original content, not someone else’s.

Of course, this is why I mentioned my 2nd option. Have a web page where this stuff is offered as a patch for free but have a donation option setup to help fund future like minded projects. This option would probably sit much better with most folks.

Absolutely- I wasn't throwing the projects under the bus I was just making a comparison with an honest question. I don't claim to be a specialist on copy writes and law so I was just curious what the views were on another project having to do with obey in new formats. I love the Sunteam art project books and own them both! <3 Thanks for the input guys.
