I've never owned one, so I figured since I sold off everything but my SGX+SCD, I'd picked one up. Any cautions or issues with the RX model I should be aware of?
How's the laser and CD-R capability of this last gen Duo? (I plan to burn some stuff for homebrew dev). Hudson filed an updated patent for the VCE in 1994, and it has a different set of RGB->YUV conversion table (lower end colors are not as dark). I'm curious if that VCE ended up in the RX model. Anyone notice any differences between the video outputs (composite) of the RX and older PCE consoles?

Both r and r x systems are known for getting cracked connections for the pins on all of the ports. So generally best to have new solder Reflon on the controller, power, and AV port. Symptoms of this is when people say there is no power from the system or controller has stopped working correctly.
Also, sometimes the gear for the CD drive in these can start to slip. It is made in two parts unlike the original Duos that are just one. Sometimes the spring that holds the two parts together tightly wears out and then the drive does not work correctly. Simple solution is to either replace the gear, or simply glue the two parts together which is what I normally do.
These are the most common problems with these systems that differ from what issues black Duo systems have. At least you don't have to worry about bad capacitors.
Both R and RX systems generally read CDR discs very well.

Just make sure you have a better joypad than the garbage the RX comes with.

Yeah, it has to be said that the only difference between an R and and RX aside from the screen print on the console is the controller and actually BOTH the two and six button are garbage. The two because it breaks and the six because the d-pad sucks.

I received the Duo-RX today. Wow.. what a great little console. It's perfect haha. The seller ended up throwing Valis 3, Ys IV, and three hucard games because he forgot to shipped it out on time.
I don't think the 6 buttton controller that comes with it is that bad. I have the two 6 buttons for PCE (for comparison). I did finally get an ave3 pad though, which is way more valuable than the 6 button ones (gameplay-wise).

Update: Wow! The seeks time on this RX unit is fast! It makes load times really quick compared to my SCD addon and briefcase models.
