Yeah, I mean, I'm in favor of keeping people civil and removing toxicity, why not? It's a private forum, moderation is de rigueur for this sort of place.

It’s not there anymore, and it’s best we move on.

Based on _jash and signofzeta’s comments, I’m going to assume that they didn’t observe an intervention earlier this week. If that is the case, then spenoza has done his job well. I really didn't know of any type of intervention happening here at all. I looked around and found page 4 of this thread. Is this what you're talking about? I think Spenzo handled it just fine by apologizing for some off colour comments, but I'd hardly call that a need for any more attention, especially creating a thread for everyone by the forum police. Maybe there was worse? Threads deleted? A banning? I'm pretty clue free. You can see the shitstorm in Drama Llama, unless Spenoza wacked it. It was the culmination of ~4 years of BS spilling over from various outlets., and me snapping because I am tired of that stuff and more. Which is why I said, and still think, you can't just go "new forum new me". That works as good as everyone's new year new me resolutions where they go to the gym for a week and then start fisting buckets of ice cream again in the dark while watching TV. We are a longstanding grop of people need to recognize things they did that were horseshit and acknowledge/own up to it instead of just popping to a new forum and pretending they're fine because now they are playing nice at the behest of moderation. I am willing to bet if moderation *wasn't* asking that, some of the attitudes would be different. PCE has had a rich history of self policing, but with the community splintering to various places, it's lost that touch. The environment doesn't improve if everyone who participated in bad-bloodery just ignores it. It can and will always arrive again. If you have a family reunion that's a shitshow, move it to a new venue next year, and tell everyone BEHAVE DONT BE LIKE LAS TIME, and leave it at that, everyone will be at each other's throats again by dessert. This isn't really different lol. and in that regard, I reached out to Tom on FB to smooth stuff over. HE ACCEPTED MY FRIEND REQUEST SO WE'RE PROBABLY GOING TO HOLD HANDS SOON. I can admit I went overboard in his regard, and it's because of that whole "4ish years of BS spilling over" that some people here are unaware of as they only participate here, and not in FB groups, discords, or other places. There is more to the community than just here, and it'd be wise to remember that. The thing newcomers might not realize at least in my case here, is some of us are just colorful. We swear, flail, yell, but generally don't mean any harm by it and are generally pushing for improvements or have good points (or at least, explained points). Expecting people to be masters of toning down stuff on the internet only in one place is kind of hard. Much like we want people to watch their words or whatever, we should also want people to step back and see if maybe the colorful folks aren't really that bad and are just swearing. People swear. It's a thing. As the one OP said: Treat people like they want to be treated. Do I want people assuming everything I post is negativity engineered to destroy everyone and everything because I am swearing, worked up, or arguing? Not really. I don't just argue for fun. There's generally a reason. We're going to have disagreeing moments. Stifling it because of words only SOME think are just too rough for TV isn't a great tone to set either. Those of us that are colorful generally don't hate anyone. I've only got like one special case where that isn't the case.

Actually, I think the whole point of this thread is say that you shouldn't consider yourself as speaking directly to an individual; you are not even talking within a group of people who know each other, with a shared history... this is a public forum with unregistered viewers as well, who observe the forums prior to making a decisions to whether to register and participate. Nobody is asking anyone to forget the past, although it would be nice if people can try to forgive others when they honestly make an effort to make amends. This is what society is all about. And the point of this thread, I think, is to state that each of our interactions - whether they are good, bad, or "neutral but sweary" - projects information about ourselves, both consciously and unconsciously: how we see ourselves, how we see others, how we expect others to see us, our group affiliations, social status, knowledge, etc. Others will see those social cues, and make judgements about whether they feel support for the speaker, or whether they feel the speaker is threatening them, or whether they are irritated. Perhaps if one considers oneself as speaking in a public place (which this is), to strangers (which many are), it is easier to understand why the moderator(s) are requesting a neutral tone - removing (or reducing) emotion and implied judgement reduces conflict. When I walk around downtown in the city, I don't want to see a fight break out in front of me, whether justified or not - and I don't want to learn the origin of it either. I am instead concerned about becoming collateral damage, and would actively avoid that area in future (whether or not that type of incident is common in that area). It's bad for business. So, let's all make an effort to be civil, if not kind, to each other.

It is a bit of a gray area because while this is a public forum, the majority of us here migrated from PCEFX, which wasn't actually public in the end, and wasn't for awhile.
So, we do have a shared history. The majority of us are PCEFX exiles.
In addition to new people who are catching wind of this forum.
"honestly make an effort to make amends" I think is an important phrase, because that's never happened here really, or on PCEFX for that matter.
It's forgive and forget, not forget and forget.
For some of us who put up with multi faceted BS and more, civil only works for a little bit before something causes it to boil over.
We have a weird environment because of how this forum was created.
EDIT: Also, it's hard to smooth anything over or work out issues with people if they just block me, for example.
At least two of you are doing that, and it's not helpful. This stuff's easily resolvable if people do something besides put on earmuffs/blinders.
Preaching civility while avoiding and/or stifling ways to create the desired environment is a little wonky.

I have no idea who any of you people are...I never met any dipstick home brew guy wearing a football helmet in Cleveland either.
I will however say that some people wanted more mod intervention on the old forum that they never got and now they do. They must be happier now.
That other forum eventually was destroyed by one person, Nanto, for giving the keys to the Shitwolf. I only want to mention this because after reading some of this thread I now sorta wonder if history hasn’t been re-written in the heads of some people as “PCEX was so ornery it destroyed itself”, which is not true. If not for one mod (who accidentally brought to the owner’s attention that he was paying $40 a month for years on end to host a forum he couldn’t stand to be on) that forum would still be there. Clearly moderation, if anything, WAS the problem there once the only mod lost his effing mind.
As long as we understand that, and that Tobias sucks, then I think we’ll be OK.

I think it was more than $40 a month, and I think Aaron kept it because it was generating ad revenue. The amount of traffic to PCEFX was high before nutterpants lost his shit over #14days of spam. Enough that it probably generated income to a level that made it worth just keeping around. Then, nutterpants banned nearly every active individual, so much that he had to create his usual sockpuppets (heh-heh) to make it look like the forums were active. It turned from a small profit generator to a loser. That, combined with the drama any time he'd post about PCE stuff on FB, caused Aaron to just shut it down. Also, on Neo-geo.com, Nutterpants admits he banned Aaron from his own site. That was a great admission none of us knew. Finally, I'm the one who reached out to request moderation, mostly because it was happening in a new member's thread. One who seems especially good at dev, and I didn't want the drama scaring them away.

I agree wholeheartedly. Let's leave the baggage and high drama at duophile.com where it belongs.

One who seems especially good at dev, and I didn't want the drama scaring them away. Do you know something more specific than the rest of us? The forum was private and I for one can promise I never clicked on a single ad so I don’t know how he could be making any money of anything in the forum at any point. I also don’t really think his ISP bill would be that high. The main site has very little content on it and it’s still up so for this explanation to make sense he would have been losing money but only on the forum....this seems unlikely. PCEFX probably would have fit into someone’s $20 a month plan. Web hosting is stupid cheap these days but Nanto turned into some money flexing douche later in life so I doubt we’ll ever know the numbers. He wants us to think it was a million dollar site soaking him for $10k a month that had to be dropped like a bad investment.

Nightwolve was made site admin. That was the issue. I think even worse move was making Necromancer a moderator. He and his lackeys, which many of them on this site now, constantly flamed and harassed any new people to the site. They created a gang that alienated anyone that wasn't on their side. It was really a toxic forum. Be warned, NECROMANCER and his team are also on here.

I’m a little worried that your first posts are focused on other people’s perceived bad behavior. Let’s focus on the community here and deal with problems as they arise. The best way to do that is to try not to bring a bunch of grudges with you and shout them through a megaphone. Chat about the PCE and Turbo and whatever else is appropriate and let this community grow and develop as it will.

All I wanted to do is let you know what happened on pcenginefx.com. my side of it. That's all. I will bury it the past and move on. But I will never forget the toxic people from that forum. All in the past now. Hopefully I don't get that treatment here.

Welcome Ben to the forums. Spenoza said it a lot better than I could've so I won't repeat it. For the record, AFAIK, none of the people mentioned by you are on these forums. If they are then they don't ever post. Some have even passed away. I remember you from your old forum handles and that seems to have been, what, nearly a decade ago? We have a space for baggage near the back door. You can just leave it there. That's where Nullity sleeps anyway.
Let's talk Turbo, pine for the old, simple days and you'll be rollin' in friends in no time.
