No updates in awhile, as I've been away with personal issues. Things have been back on track for a few days now, and the PC conversion is close to being wrapped up. The Genesis conversion is also close to being wrapped up. The Genesis conversion is almost a direct port of the PCE original, though not quite as colorful and lacking the CD audio (the sound is still quite good though, especially for a Genesis). The PC conversion is closer to the original design that DJ developed before we had to make cuts for technical reasons.

I ran into a bug a couple of nights ago where I defeated the bat mini-boss while it was off-screen and the game wouldn't progress from there. I had to restart the game. I saw someone else do this on a livestream... they shot at the bat while it was offscreen and it took like 2 minutes for the thing to die and the door to open. I am not sure what happened there, but the door did indeed open after some time. So I thought I might also share a little bonus with y'all. There's going to be an extra feature on the PC build of the game... you will be able to create and share your own level designs. This is a feature unique to the PC build and isn't available on other platforms... and you heard about it here first.

So I figured I'd show a few things here to give some idea of how things are progressing. This shows some of the differences between the three current versions. There is a lot of similarity between them. The major differences in this particular comparison collage is that the PC Engine and Megadrive versions have the same textbox setup in this scene, whereas the PC version has the textbox setup that the rest of the game uses, making it more universal. The textbox setup had to be modified in Stage 00 due to the huge number of sprites being used, but on the PC, this limitation is gone, so the textbox can be displayed as normal. What you can't really see that well, however, is the lack of animation. The Megadrive version does not animate the lights in the background like the PC Engine and PC versions do, likely due to the color limitations of that system. You see some serious differences in the cutscenes. Because the PC version is not limited to palettes, cutscenes can be rendered in their original, full-color forms. The Genesis scenes were apparently based on the PC Engine scenes, but many lost even more detail due to, again, color limitations. Not terrible, but there is definitely noticeable differences. We don't yet have any screenies of the Dreamcast version, which is currently in development. However, they are basing the DC version on the MD version, which I felt was a mistake. Since the PC version is not yet wrapped up, they are not able to use its code for the DC conversion. I felt they should have waited, but that's not my decision or department. All three of these versions play pretty much the same... which is good and bad. On the good side, you can just pick up and play any one of them and every aspect of every move will feel pretty much identical... on the bad side, the PC Engine and Megadrive versions use the exact same logic cores, which means that the Megadrive version has all of the flaws that the PC Engine original has. The PC version, on the other hand, has rewritten logic cores, so there's less glitchy gameplay in certain areas, such as the slopes in Stage 04 and the stairs in Stage 03. Although we can just blame it all on Geni's interference, the truth is that I was so mentally exhausted when I wrote that part that I overlooked what should have been a bloody obvious flaw there. Also, because the Megadrive version uses the exact same game subsystems as the PC Engine original, Stage 00 suffers the same flicker issues as the PC Engine original version, as the PC Engine and Megadrive have similar sprites-per-line limitations. The PC version, on the other hand, removes the object subsystem altogether and utilizes actual parallax layers with all-new map construction, plus there is absolutely no flicker whatsoever. Furthermore, both the PC Engine and Megadrive versions have a small limit on live enemy entities, which is 8. The PC version's limit on the same is 64. In some stages, like Stage 00, this means that on the PC version, the screen can be flooded with enemies. The same kind of limitations with projectiles, limited to 10 on the console versions, is increased to 128 on the PC version, so certain glitched parts, like the Platinum Seiba battle in Stage 6-1, work as intended, making those parts substantially less irritating.

Hi there, I'd like to buy the PCE version for my humble collection. With an eye on shipping (and the dreaded custom charges), may I ask where they are being shipped from? As I'm in Japan I was wondering if Super Potato sells them too (as was the case with Shubibinman Zero for the SFC last year). If so, it might be cheaper for me... I don't know, haha..

Pretty sure they're being shipped out of either Henderson or Las Vegas, in the state of Nevada, USA. There will be a Japanese language version soon though and, from what I understand, it will be sold out of select stores in Japan.

Contacting Saru on email, FxUnitYuki@gmail.com, would probably yield some results on what exact stores they'll be sold in, and or how to get it sooner.

Thanks guys. Japanese language version sounds like a good one to wait for I guess. I'll shoot a mail out to Saru to see about any specifics.
Cheers!
