I was never around when this project started over at PCEFX but i have to say it looks amazing. Huge shame it’s been abandoned. I hope someone makes contact with OldRover and co as it looks like they have been great contributers to the PCE scene over the years and would be a shame if they just seized up without this never getting completed. Even if it never gets finished it’s great to know just how good a port the PC Engine could have had in the right hands. Incredible pixel art too - it must have taken ages.

After the PCFX mass migration, and finishing up his last project with Saru, Rove kinda fell off the map. He could be hanging out on Discord though. Aah.. I didn't know he was behind the code of Saru's FX Unit Yuki. How interesting. The PC-Engine community really needs more people like him. Indeed, the recolored Arcade pixel art looks great. I'm also really interested in hearing the music that Paranoia Dragon put together. Have to check out that Discord channel although I have no idea what Discord is, haha.

Rover hasn't retired from PCE programming. He originally stopped work on Golden Axe and Jingle Bros until Arcade Card support with HuC had been figured out, which I believe it has.
I believe that something like Golden Axe which would purely be a passion project, only with the potential legal baggage involved, is lower priority than something original

Are you still working with the Golden Axe graphics? As a Golden Axe fan and a long time professional Graphics/Pixel/2D/3D artist myself, I couldn't help but geek out over this. Are you involved in any other game projects?

This sentiment is kind of mirrored here. And he's already closed down the Frozen Utopia website. I'm sure we all hope he's just taking a break from programming and will come back renewed one of these days, but it looks like he's finished for the time being.

He got burnt out rushing to finish FX Unit Yuki and expected to take a long break after when he said something similar.
I think that pic above was about him no longer trying to publish and instead leaving that part to Sarumaru.
He recently expressed an interest in continuing to work on PC Engine projects, but that's all I can say for now.

Basically, he's tired of having to orchestrate everything? Maybe he wouldn't mind just being a programmer as part of a team, and not the guy trying to pull all the levers? Even if I didn't get everything right, I bet I'm getting close.

I definitely missed that FB post so thanks for posting it here. I agree that he'll likely join Saru's ranks full time as a programmer only. One area I'd like to address is the Lucretia pre-order from years and years ago. I'm just speaking as a customer and in no way mean to rock the boat. Those Paypal orders are very very old and I'm hoping that they still exist in some form for the eventual release of the game.

I thought Saru said something to the effect that they weren't doing anymore PCE stuff because Rover dipped.
in any event, I would not hold my breath for this happening anytime while we're coherent.

Lol, I have kept my paypal email from that pre-purchase in my in-box all these years! Almost 5 years ago...

The last time I talked to him, he said he was still planning on doing Golden Axe someday, never truly letting it die. While I can't remember his exact words, at the time, he still had the intention of finishing it. I hope so, it looks & sounds great, IMO.
For reference. The music was mostly mashup. I took the PCE CD tunes, & mixed them with the Sega Ages 3D remake tunes. However, the credits tune in the PCE CD version was unacceptable to me, so I redid it from scratch(plus, that tune wasn't in the 3D remake if I'm remembering right). Same goes for the hi score tune, remade that one from scratch as well.

I wonder what it would take to get him to pop in over here periodically in person just to let us know what he's up to and keep those ties to the community.

Well even if it never gets finished you all did a fantastic job in proving how capable the PC Engine is in the hands of talented people. Considering it was just a demo of early dev work, everything is just such high quality. The music is great too nice job on that! I love the inclusion of an option to choose from Arcade to PCE CD music!

If there was ever a pill made of pure nostalgia that you could take I'm sure that it'd be mainly condensed from that one song. One of my faves.
