Okay for the past week I've been looking into six button controllers because I've found some for a good deals but which one is the best?

The Avenue Pad 6 is my fave. I know some people swear by the Duo-RX controller, but I find it pretty junky myself. I only have one of the former, and whenever we got some multiplayer gaming going, whoever gets stuck with the latter always grumbles.

I've only used a Hori Fighting Commander 6 button pad, but it's pretty solid. The D-pad feels more like an SNES one than a standard PCE d-pad, so it might be more up your alley.

From the controllers that I got on my hands so far - the regular 2-button, the Avenue Pad 3 and the Hori Fighting Commander PC 6-button - I like the Hori pad the most.
There's nothing particularly wrong with the 2-button pads (I got four of them), but the d-pad on the Hori Fighting Commander PC takes the cake for being the most pleasant to use.

Are there many games that actually use more than the basic 2 buttons?

The main one that uses six buttons is Street Fighter II. There are probably some Arcade Card fighting games that also use more than two buttons. Forgotten Worlds is much easier with three buttons (you can play with two, but then you need to use Run to rotate one direction).

I have both the Ave 6 and Hori Fighting Commander. I slightly prefer the Hori due to the D-pad being a bit more responsive (similar to SNES D-pad) and being overall smaller and a bit more comfortable for my hands. Both are great controllers and you can't go wrong with getting either one.
Also worn controllers definitely make a difference. I've had several new and used Ave 6 pads and a couple with worn D-pads were harder to pull off Street Fighter moves.

Hori FC is definitely the best. Avenue 6 shreds my thumb

I love the Avenue Pad 6 and am a fervent hater of the SNES pad. I guess the Hori isn’t for me.

If you can find one the hori fighter stick isn't bad either for the pce and it's six buttons.

I was going to come in here spouting the wonders of the Ave 6 pad but you guys burned that blimp right up. I've never come across or even used a Hori pad on PCE so you've upped my interest on one.

It also works great for shooters or any arcade type game. In addition if you have all the wires it works on the genesis and the snes. A great stick for all 3 systems of that era. I normally just use the standard 2 button or the avenue 3 for regular turbo games.

The problem with arcade sticks is shipping if shipping wasnt a killer I would own many fighting sticks and one twin stick
