Josh, I think I've mentioned Pat's videos no less than a billion gazillion times in our chat. Pat's videos are great! He and Chris Bucci are the only two Youtubers I know of that haven't went with the trends of bigger, shinier, and better. And they focus on the games rather than their collectability.

patmanqc : Thank you for the kind words in your review of Contra, it's always pleasant to have someone say something nice about your work over 30 years later. The reason that the Amstrad version only has either music OR sound effects, is that Roger Fenton's music driver couldn't handle both at the same time, and so we had to choose whether to use either sound effects or music. On a 128KB Amstrad you get to choose which version to use when you start the game. The music was only delivered a few days before the game shipped, and so there was no opportunity (or management desire) to try to get another contractor (such as Fred Gray, who did the Renegade music/fx) to to do a better job. I was pretty pissed-off by the situation, which prompted the sarcastic " Original Soundtack available on Jean-Michael Fenton Records" comment at the end of the game.

Elmer, I had no idea your coding journey stretched back all the way onto the British micros. *Tips hat*

His voice-over still sounds weirdly muffled or low-bitrate. Maybe he's got a cheap mic or he's using an over-compressed recording format. Either way, I cannot appreciate his dulcet tones with his current recording rig.
