Does anyone know what happens to hucards that causes them to die?
We've recently seen bootleg hucards, (bad) but it does pergaps open away for legit cards to be repaired

I’ve never had a dead one. Got a galaga that didn’t play in a converter but works fine on a JP duo. Strange

It is strange. The most "well known" case of dying Hucards is PC Genjin 2. But presumably others fail too sometimes. The only thing I can think of is that the ROM somehow flips some of its bits, but I have no idea why

I've had one HuCard that wouldn't play: a copy of Youkai Douchuuki. I got it in a lot with 3 other games from YJA, and I was mainly interested in using them for replacement cases, so I didn't mind. Physically, nothing appeared wrong with the contacts, but the card itself was very dirty, and vigorous cleaning didn't do any good. For a crazy example of a HuCard dying in action, check out spida1a's TurboView for Super Star Soldier: m.youtube.com/watch?v=pWUAlyd-aHw

I recently revived a Game Boy Legend of Zelda Link's Awakening DX cartridge with the help of Voultar's video tutorial. Cause of the problem were cold joints of the chips due to bending of the thin PCB. I wonder if this applies to Hueys as well, although I wouldn't think so due to them being thick, stiff and strong (that's what she said), and the chips being rather sealed inside.

It is strange. The most "well known" case of dying Hucards is PC Genjin 2. Yes, I've got one that has buggy gfx. I can make it to the ice level with the glitchy sprites and backgrounds, but it hampers progress on that stage. At least it's not a rare game to come around.

My first copy of Outrun was in amazing shape. Beautiful label and bright, shiny pins. But it wouldn't work no matter what I did or what system or converter I tried it on. I did notice a very tiny scratch of one of the pins but I'm not sure if that was the culprit. I ended up selling it to Nectarsis. He made it into a necklace haha

I have a dead loosy of Cratermaze. Actually, now you mention it I did have one dead chip and it was cratermaze. Luckily seller had more than one so I got a replacement. No amount of cleaning helped it was just dead. A white or bluey screen.

I've had one or two games which were a hair's breadth too thin - especially in the case of converter fails, bootleg cards, and Games Express CD System cards.
The solution in this case is to put a strip of tape along the back to thicken it slightly. I use 3M Scotch "magic" tape.
