Well this is late...
Gate of Thunder is one of the most famous shooters on the system. They pull off a lot of fantastic tricks with the hardware that Chris Covell himself would be proud of, but underlying that, is the years of experience the Technosoft staff and Red/Hudson have put into this exemplary shooter. Everything about it is precise, jaw dropping, and explosive. I can't imagine how it must have been to experience this in the 90's, but even years later, it's enough to raise the hairs on the back of your neck. And let's not forget a banging soundtrack. This is one of the reasons to own the system, and it's rightly regarded as one of the best shooters of the era - on any system.
World Heroes 2, is a strange one - on one hand, this is a fantastic port of the Neo Geo original, leaps and bounds better than the SNES version, and more accurate. On the other hand, it's not the best Neo Geo fighter. Maybe there are reasons, but as SNK were churning out fighting games, trying to find their niche, they were clearly onto something with their other series. Maybe it was just timing, but I'd have loved to have seen a Samurai Shodown (II) port. Still, as fighting games go, it's easy to look back at the paths that Streetfighter II in particular paved, and to dismiss games like World Heroes II, but as you can see from some of the other fighters on the system, this one was actually really good for it's time, if a tad dated now. Big colourful sprites, and it's responsive, which you need. Not bad SNK, not bad at all.

I like the SFII style of WH2 more than other Neo Geo fighters and it's a fun game. But I can't judge it properly as I missed my chance to play it extensively against human opponents.

I received the TurboDuo the Christmas after it was released and Gate of Thunder was the first game I put in. It blew...my damned...mind. Still one of my favorite shooters ever.

Yet another tough decision. Gate is my fave shooter on the platform, but World Heroes was just a fantastic conversion and an underrated game.

The first time I saw GoT in person I didn't pay it much attention, because I thought it was a Neo Geo AES game. I was outside a store in a mall in Prince George (city I was born in) and they had several consoles in a large glass display out front. There were at least three TVs, hooked to a Genesis, SNES and a TurboDuo.
I remember seeing the first stage, I think a bit of the third and flashes of the opening cinema. It looked like a brand new Neo Geo game and there might have been an AES on display. I didn't want to watch something I could never play and figured I could try it out if it ever showed up in the multi MVS in my hometown of Prince Rupert.
I was aware of what GoT was, thanks to magazines, but my immediate reaction to it was that it was Neo Geo. I don't remember having that kind of reaction to any other regular 16-bit console games bitd.

I owned a Neo Geo in the 90's and seen Word Heroes 1 in a magazine but never played it,a few years later when collecting games for AES I ordered Word Heroes 2 from a game shop in America.I liked the game but had the most fun with Art Of Fighting against friends.I voted for Word Heroes 2 because this port is the closest to the AES version.

Yet another tough decision. Gate is my fave shooter on the platform, but World Heroes was just a fantastic conversion and an underrated game. While I agree that World Heroes is underrated and a fantastic conversion, this is one of the easiest poll choices as Gates is, for me, one of THE most perfect shooters ever.

Yeah, I can't put WH above Gate. Gate is pretty much the perfect shooter.

I love World Heroes Perfect. That's a fantastic game. It's way ahead of its time in a lot of ways and fun to delve into if you're into fun fighting games. World Heroes 2 though? That game blows. Yeah, it's a neat port, but the game is just Boring.
Yeah, Gate of Thunder? C'mon, this one's a no-brainer. I don't think I've ever heard anyone call the game "boring" so I voted with it.
