Honestly, its all the Switch coverage he's doing. As soon as a channel starts doing Switch coverage it seems that their viewership doubles. I got turned off from him long ago when he started bragging about buying a $100 repro of Street Fighter 2 for the snes. $100. Seriously.
Will he regain your respect after bragging about flipping it for $500? Nope. Guys like that ruin the hobby.

Yeah, I can't stand Metal Jesus, AVGN, RGT85 or any of those types. I watch stuff like Jeremy Parish's NESWorks, or Let's play 1001 games. You know shit about the actual games and playing them, not about owning them. The 8 Bit Guy is also pretty cool, even though the stuff he goes for is a bit older and more computery.

+1 on the 8-Bit Guy. And LGR. Both are pretty likeable and do entertaining shows about vintage computers, obsolete technology and old games. They know what they're talking about and how to entertain their audience.

I enjoy LGR, Turbo views (of course), and older vids from the HVGN, 16-bit Gems, and ancient RetrowareTV. Certain AVGN as well.

No Game Sack, interesting . . . Well this thread seems to have steered toward less than stellar YT peoples(and collecting repros), and the GS guys do not fall in that category. Of course, you may have been trolling...

OK. I've had as much as I can stand. Today, the last straw broke.
I have recently wanted to try out the Valis series, and while I was very tempted to just buy the Tobias bootleg set, I decided to try to do things right, and find original copies.
A few days ago, Several eBay auctions for Turbo CD games came to my attention. Among the games were a few I had interest in getting, including Valis 2 and 3. I had recently gotten a job, so I figured I'd give it a try.
I didn't win a single auction. All the games I was interested in sold for, at minimum, $100. In desperation, I found a Buy It Now for Valis 2, claiming to be in Very Good condition for $70, and bit the bullet.
Today, the game came, and I was upset to discover that the manual had a damaged back cover, and the disc was covered in bizarre scratches. Even though it still played, my heart sank.
I wondered, "Why do I do this to myself?" "Why do I bother?" "Why do I pay an arm and a leg to these reseller scumbags to get crap?"
And something just broke in my mind.
I'm done.
Done wasting my money on eBay prices.
Done playing by the rules.
Done holding back the truth.
I'm coming clean.
I'm in support of Tobias' bootlegs. When I buy them, I don't feel screwed over the way I do when I buy an official copy off eBay. I know that this is probably a very unpopular opinion, but I don't care anymore. I spent $70 on a wrecked copy of one game, when I could have gotten everything, brand new, for $150, all because I tried to "do the right thing."
In a perfect world, where resellers didn't exist, of course I would buy originals. Why wouldn't I? But I live on a budget, and can't afford originals of all the games I want. I don't buy these games for the sake of collecting. I don't buy these games to make a moral statement. I buy these games to f*cking play them. I shouldn't have to sell a kidney to do that.
The main argument I have seen used to attack Tobias is that his bootlegs enable resellers to con people. Well, that's on the resellers. They're thieving, money-grubbing bastards. And life finds a way.
I wouldn't be able to afford copies of these games if it weren't for Tobias and his bootlegs. They enable me to experience these games without feeling buyer's remorse, and I'd rather support him than those monsters on eBay.
Now, if you'll excuse me, I've got a Valis boxset to save up for...

Why not just use CD-Rs?
EDIT: I don't see a reason why one should go for the expensive US releases of Valis 2 and 3. Some years ago, I settled for the Japanese PC Engine releases of Valis 1 - 4. They were easy to find and could be had for cheap. They're still affordable today, just not cheap.
The Valis bootleg boxset seems to be pretty overpriced, like all the other ones for sale. Won't buy any of these. Bad deals.
"Excuse me"? Thanks, but no thanks. I'm not criticising you as a person, but your actions and the reasoning behind them.

The main reason I hate him is because he steals from the community for profit. Translations, the Mega Man port, none of that is his work. It's stuff that people from the community have made for the love of it, and then he steals it in order to make a profit. Just as he does with other licensed games. Not to mention he basically fucked the community with regard to Sapphire, even if he tried to make good after. If you just want to play the games, you can just burn them onto CDRs, as has been stated. If you really want pressed CDs, at $150 for a complete set, you're approaching the price where you can get your own CDs pressed. Sorry Arjak, I'm not having a go at you, you should do what you feel is right, but I feel like I needed to restate what a scumbag he is, and why I don't like that he's making money that way.

Just use SD System 3 and put all the ISOs on SD card.

Yeah, seriously, just burn CDRs. If all you want to do is play, that is the easiest, cheapest answer. The Tobias bootlegs may be quality, but they're also expensive. Maybe not as expensive as the original, legit items, but still expensive. And if it really is that you not only want something to play but also to put on your shelf and look nice, consider playing Turbo game burns and collecting for shelf appeal something a bit cheaper.
The real thing to consider here is that the Tobias boots are not the best solution for people who are primarily interested in playing, because CDRs are cheaper, and because they are bootlegs and not legitimate releases, they are not the best solution for collectors. So the question is, what are these Tobias bootlegs the solution for?

I don't want to be that guy, but if you're getting steamed over a mediocre game like Valis 2...you're doing it wrong. Just burn CD-R's or play the ISOs.

CD-Rs are definitely a solution, and I do use them, but in some strange way, reading a manual or looking at a box cover is part of the game experience for me. I also fear burning out my laser quicker, so if I can help it, I prefer to use factory pressed discs when possible. Maybe I do have a bit of collectard in me, I don't know.
All I do know is that I buy, collect, and play games not for money or bragging rights, but out of love for the medium. And the fact that these games are used to milk people out of as much money as possible makes me furious.
I was in a bad place yesterday. I was angry. Hurt, even. I probably overreacted. I tend to do that, as some of you have probably noticed by now.
I just find these bootlegs to be a far greater deal than original copies. I dispute the idea that they are over priced.
The auction I saw for Valis 3 (US) ended at around $150. For that same price, I could buy the bootleg set and get: Valis 1 (JP), Valis 2 (JP), Valis 2 (US), Valis 3 (JP), Valis 3 (US), Valis 4 (JP), and Valis Visual Collection (JP), all with manuals and cases. That's about $21.50 per disc.
For me, that seems like a FAR better value.
I do have a large stack of Taiyo-Yuden CD-Rs, but I would rather save those if I can help it, and get factory pressed discs to preserve my laser and blank discs, which I fear I might not be able to get more of in the future, with good CD-Rs becoming harder to find.
I might be being paranoid and picky, for all I know, though.
I'm not trying to offend or upset people here, I just had a really bad day yesterday and needed to vent my true feelings. If you disagree with me, that's fine. I just needed to get it all out.
