So I know translation/localization is technically not home brew, but I think it fits in with development.
This thread is dedicated to the long-anticipated Xanadu work by Sam and Elmer. Here we can discuss how much we appreciate their efforts and give them a friendlier forum in which to share project updates when they arise.
So, Elmer, anything you can share? Is there anything some of us can do to take the load off of Sam? I know with his budding family that the slog that is voice work is slow going (if at all). I confess I do worry that the hunt for perfection might just make this project dead in the water, but I hold out hope.

Oh I remember this. I thought about offering to do voice work, but I don't have a microphone

So, Elmer, anything you can share? Is there anything some of us can do to take the load off of Sam? I'd prefer that Sam respond himself, unless he asks me to step in. I confess I do worry that the hunt for perfection might just make this project dead in the water, but I hold out hope. It's definitely not dead ... just in stuck slow-motion. AFAIK, the only thing that's actually broken in the game itself right now is the LoX2 Intro cinema ... and that's because we put in the english text, but haven't adjusted all of the hard-coded timings to match the new english text because we'd just have to do that work all over again once the dub is done. If we decided to slow-track the dub, and just release the game with the original VO, then I believe that's the only thing that we'd have to fix. Either of us can do that ... we've both got the complete toolchain and translation. It's not going to just disappear, so don't worry about that.

I'd PM Sam at FX to let him know this is the new happening joint, but I'm still on read-only over there (which is why I pretty much stop in once a week to roll my eyes). I do hope he's doing well. Fatherhood with a young child really does take most of your time, energy, and motivation away from you, because as soon as you have a free moment you just want to sit and attempt to regain a little energy from all you expended being responsible and parent-like.
I will tell you this, however. When the Xanadu translations finally drop, they will immediately become the next two games on my "to play" list, and I will track my progress here (and at RB) and write up reviews and everything. I'll put that down as an official commitment.

When it gets to that point, I would love to be able to help playtest. Since I wasn't able to participate in the dub, I would still like to help in any way that I can.

I'm probably more excited for these games than any current-gen game due for release (except for Metroid Prime 4). Can't wait!

Oh wow! #2? No wonder you're busy! Our first and only is just recently 2 and is raging head-on through toddler-hood. He's starting to teethe his back molars finally, we think, and it's causing him lots of pain. He's been very needy as a result. But he's also a real sweetheart when he's well-slept and not in pain. We're getting to experience all those fun mispronunciations and creative short sentences every parent likes to laugh about.
Whenever you need to rope in someone with older kids or no kids to help record and edit lines, just let this community know. I bet we have some folks who would be capable of assisting.

posting an update from the PCEFX forum as most of the people here are IP Blocked by Nightwolve. If Sam or Elmer are around they can elaborate more "To anyone waiting for the Xanadu translations: Thank you for your patience. After a long and much needed down-time, elmer and I have been making regular and meaningful progress on the dub for weeks now. The project has never been dead, and will never be dead. These things just take time. We hope you'll all be excited to play the translations when they're finished." ~SamIAm

Yep, we're back in business. Nice to see you guys again. Oh wow! Whenever you need to rope in someone with older kids or no kids to help record and edit lines, just let this community know. I bet we have some folks who would be capable of assisting. Yeah, my little dude is quite needy, too. I'm worried about how he's going to react when his parents suddenly have to split their time between him and a wiggly lump who cries a lot and smells funny. Sometimes I wonder if it would have been better to wait another year. In the second half of my wife's pregnancy, she's been so weighed down that it's been me who's wound up giving our first the most heavy-duty attention. He kind of prefers me now, and I'm wondering if that will continue after our second is born - if she winds up being tighter with our second for a while while I wind up being tighter with our first. I hope not! Anyway, it makes you think a lot about how siblings and family makeup affect a person as they grow up. #2 is due on the 31st of all days. Two boys...My home is going to get noisy...
