So I've been thinking, turboxray, you mentioned possibly doing a Bonk demo instead. If so, as mentioned before, I already have music ready for a souped up port of Super Bonk which I call Bonk to the Future.
I know you mentioned that making a demo of a game, would make people want a full game, but honestly I think any demo makes people want a full game. Or at least that's how it works for me.
It was mentioned by that poster was deleted, that he would've started the game off in the badlands(which is where the intro takes place), which are more or less a recreation of the first level of Bonk 1.
With that, my idea would be to do the Title screen(my Redbook version is here
m.soundcloud.com/user-826236355/super-bonk-title-theme ), then start the game in a souped up version of the first level of Bonk 1 with parallax of the various bg stuff(bushes, volcanoes, the moon, clouds, etc. and perhaps some foreground stuff?) as well as brighter colors compared to what was used in Super Bonk.
Then, at the end of the level, or perhaps at the beginning of the 2nd level from Bonk 1, have Bonk get trapped in that time machine from the intro of Super Bonk(my version of that tune is here
m.soundcloud.com/user-826236355/intro-cinema-final ), leading to the short cinema of Bonk scaling and rotating into the bg as he's warped to the Future. I assume this could all be done thru frames of animation...... probably a lot of them would be my guess. Also, I would greatly prefer, if possible, King Drool in this part be his normal enormous size, rather than tiny like in the SNES version.
Then, he ends up in an updated version of Super Bonks first level(my version is here
m.soundcloud.com/user-826236355/city-final ). Personally I'd like to see better looking buildings, perhaps ones that have some slight prehistoric look to them, even though he's in modern times. Maybe several level of building? Maybe some could too. Really just depends on what's doable with your PCE tricks.
I don't have any music ready for the water level that you can enter a little ways into the first level, so maybe could just put a "no swimming" sign there or say "under construction", or perhaps "koi pond coming soon" or something along those lines? Also, sadly I don't have a finished version of the main bonus theme, only an early prototype.
Then I suppose the next level, which is a cave IIRC, could be done, as I have that tune completely finished as well(my version is here
m.soundcloud.com/user-826236355/cave ). At the very least, could do what I call pockets o' parallax, where there's open areas in the cave that display a 2nd(or even 3rd?) bg layer. Perhaps some of that could be waterfalls, kinda like the layer of lava in FX Unit Yuki.
Something I did just think of, is that I do have one bonus level song completely done. The one where you bounce around on clouds capturing fruit. I suppose we could at least do that bonus level. IIRC, in the bg, there are several layers of buildings in the background, but in Super Bonk, are only treated as one layer. Perhaps we could do what I think might be called horizontal interrupt with those multitude of buildings(or maybe that's different than the water in Sonics Green Hill Zone?). My version of the song can be found here
m.soundcloud.com/user-826236355/cloud-super-bonk-turbo-grafx-cdI suppose the level after that could be done, but I don't have any specific feedback on that level at this time. It reuses the City tune.
After that is a could level, which uses the same tune for the cloud based bonus level.
After that, the bridge, uses the city theme again.
After that, is a very short level on a ferris wheel(my version is here
m.soundcloud.com/user-826236355/juicy-super-bonk-turbo-grafx-cd ). Since that ferris wheel is so ugly looking in my opinion, because of all the rotating metal beams, I had an idea, of replacing those beams with a giant rotating smiley face in the middle, which may even be easier than trying to replicate it the original SNES way, and look potentially better.
Now, if you're even interested in this demo, I don't know if you'd want to make these many levels, as that's getting pretty close to the end of world one, and the boss. Black Tiger was originally coming up with ideas on how to do, and improve the world 1 boss. But, not only do I not know how much of the demo you'd want to do, but I don't have the boss theme ready yet. My idea for it is really cool, but I haven't even started on it.
Another thing. I feel that every Bonk game should have the same sound effects(like Bonks Bonk sound, his spin, the crunch when he hits an enemy or divebombs headfirst), but also, the same tune for when you eat meat, invincibility, and end stage themes. I as a sound guy, really find it important for continuity, helping it to feel like "Bonk". However, aside from sampling those sounds and doing them adpcm, it would require hacking Bonk 1 to rip out the sound engine! I imagine that could be quite the task.
Also, since my idea includes a souped up version of Bonk 1's first level, I would think we'd need the tune from that level. I haven't made my own version however. So, that would either require, once again, hacking Bonk 1's sound engine, or perhaps me doing a mashup of the TG and PS2 versions of that tune. That might sound pretty cool actually. Though, even with my problems I have with my keyboard, it might not be much of a problem of whipping up my own version of the theme, just to make sure it fits in with the sound continuity.
Any thoughts on doing some or any of this? I haven't talked to him in awhile but I assume Black Tiger is still around and wouldn't mind(hopefully) doing any necessary Sprite and tile work. I don't remember how much he did several years ago offhand but he seemed to enjoy the prospect of the project.
With that, my hope would be that someday I could finish all the music, and someone would want to finish making the entire game, but I'm not going to cross my fingers!
I just realized, I have 3 more tunes. Unfortunately, 2 of them are for the first and second levels of world 2( my versions found here
m.soundcloud.com/user-826236355/jungle-super-bonk-turbo-grafx-cd and here
m.soundcloud.com/user-826236355/t-rex-1-super-bonk-turbo-grafx-cd ). And the final one used for the very end of the game, after you beat Drool( found here
m.soundcloud.com/user-826236355/bonk-smash-super-bonk-turbo-grafx-cd ) which is a variation of the title screen. Though, I will say, if it's even possible, it'd be awesome to do stage 1 of world 2. That is, if the giant dinosaur feet could be pulled off, while also having parallax. I assume the SNES couldn't pull that off, since the original bg in the SNES version is completely lacking in any layers. If we were to do a full game, I'd want to adjust the graphics in that level, so that it didn't look like it would have layers of parallax.
